Possible WCCCD Nursing Applicants

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I applied for Wayne County Community Nursing program 01/2011. I have yet to hear from the college if accepted or not :crying2:. Has any WCCCD applicants heard back regarding their applications? Everytime I call the Nursing office they tell me letters have not been sent out yet. The stress from waiting is killing me slowly.

Thanks Alibrahimi, you are right it's better to drop it at the office :)

That's what I was going to do anyways.

About your classes, if you like taking online classes, it won't affect your schedule at all, you can do your studying or aassignment anytime you want......think about it, it's a good idea.

Good night and Good Luck!

Good afternoon - Update time ,

I turned in my acceptance card today at the nursing office and asked on scheduling, they said they will have scheduling information ready on orientation day. I assume that means we will choose our schedule at that time. So besides the medical requirements there doesnt appear to be anything we need to do between now and orientation.

As to the test for success book listed in our acceptance letter, the school library has ordered them just recently and will contact you if you leave your name and number. Otherwise, ill let you know when the books do arrive.

have a good day,

Alibrahimi

Hello There:

In order to better prepare for the first 7.5 weeks of nursing school, it is a smart idea to get ahead start on ur reading, in the KOZIER textbook, i believe the first 5 chapters. Also you can stop by the nursing office and pick up the syllabus for the Foundations Class (NUR 110) so you have an idea of when ur exams & quizzes are.

Also for the NUR 111-Foundations LAB and NUR 118-Physical Assessment you are to dress in lab attire (white t-shirt and black, grey, or blue sweats, with white gym shoes. Ladies: hair must be tied up)

Other than that, everything should be a breeze.

You will select your classes at orientation by lottery.

I am happy to answer any question any of you may have about the program.

Enjoy the ride! :)

Hey me2006 thanks for the great input , by sweats you mean just regular sweatpants regardless of what type?

Yes regular sweatpants but they can't have any print or anythin on them. All just one color.

And you are welcome!

Thanks again , If I may ask how would describe job outlook for grad nurses in detroit area?

Hey there!

Job outlook isn't so great actually. A lot of students have graduated and are still looking for jobs and its been a little over a year :(. The BEST way to guarantee ur self an RN position after graduation is to try to get ur foot in the door early. Meaning try to get a position In a hospital either as an student extern or nurses aid or anythin of such nature cuz that way they know who u r. And most hospitals only hire from within. They only hire from their staff.

Yes I know it would be difficult to work n keep up with nursing school but maybe a contingent position would work.

Also if u have connections that would really help. That seems to be another way a lotof grad nurses are hired.

but u never know maybe by the time u guys graduate, there will be a better system for hiring.

And I wouldn't worry about employment just yet!

Stay on top of ur work and don't procrastinate. All nursing classes at WCCCD are only 7.5 weeks. They will fly by and u will cover so much info and learn so many new things.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I'm a new grad :yeah:and I've heard and seen different employment stories. The most successful are the ones who take a tech/nursing assistant job during the very first semester of school or even before they are accepted into a program. I've seen students get a tech job...then get into the nursing program....then get their clinical assignment matched up with their job site.....and have a job waiting for them when they graduate. I personally did not go that route. I graduated and now I'm preparing for the NCLEX before I even start applying for jobs. Why? you might ask...well...I wasn't aware (not in the loop :crying2:) that it would be best to get a tech job while in the program. At this point I'm not considered for a tech job and not licensed as a RN....limbo:uhoh3:. I will just wait to get a license and get in line.

Thank you so much me2006 and all. I will do everything to be ready for the nursing program (the reading and everything else thanks it's a good help) and as we go alone if I have any question I will ask you to.

For now I really Thank You for your time.

Ali I did the same thing, I returned mine today and thanks for the info as well about the book.

You are welcome! And Dont Stress Its NOT that bad! Really! :)
