Possible to get into nursing school with a C? Has anyone ever?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Has anyone ever gotten into nursing with a C? I received a C in English Comp 2 last semester. Quite honestly, I was happy because the class started out with 24 people and the last week of class we only had 7 people including me. I was happy I survived. Then I realized, "Oh no, there is an actual C on my transcript." I just hear how you have to have A's and B's....really only A's in order to even be considered for admission. I know nursing school is competitive. So will this affect me? Also I haven't taken Chemistry yet but for some reason I just know it's going to be extremely hard. I'm just prepared for the worse. If I get a C in that class, will that affect me too? I just hear how Chemistry is very difficult especially for people who do not take a liking to math. I like to look at all possible scenarios. I promise I'm not a negative person! ?

Also, if you did get in with a C, was it your first time applying? Or did you apply several times before with no luck?

I got a C in anatomy. Hated that god forsaken memorization based class.

Got A's in intro and organic chem... only to not have them count as pre-req GPA :-\ but I got in.

I went to a 4 year college for 2 years before starting nursing at a community college (2 year degree). I had actually failed a couple courses prior to sending transcripts to the nursing program and still got in. GPA was still over a 3.0. They weren't related to nursing or science so there's always hope. Good luck!

Just try your best in your remaining pre-reqs and don't give up and you will get in some where. Good luck to you!

Does anyone know about ws? How would that affect me getting into nursing school? My pre req GPA is all As, but I have 7 ws from when I was young and dumb.

Most programs don't count the W's unless it is stated. I'm glad the schools I'm looking into don't because I have a boatload of them!

lol!

I had 2 C's. One in statistics and one in A&P2. Honestly, I couldn't believe that I got in! The school I was admitted to had a points system where the HESI test accounted for a great deal of points. Thankfully I'm a pretty good test taker. That being said my points were still pretty low and I was shocked when I got the acceptance letter. I would advise that you take more time to apply to schools with points systems rather than schools with GPA only admissions.

I had many W's as well and they did not factor into my admissions.

If it doesn't work out, you could go the ADN route then RN-BSN or RN-MSN route afterwards. Just keep at it. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can not have ultimately! You'll end up there in the end!

Some schools let you apply for academic renewal to remove W's from when you were young and dumb. Nursing school can be competitive but often a lot of the competition is on the high end. I.e A students creating an atmosphere of competition amongst themselves and unduly freaking themselves out. One C in a non science course probably won't hurt you.

My friend got in with a C, but only becuase she had a crazy high entrance exam score to balance it out. It is all going to depend on the admissions process at your school. At my school... each pre-req class grade is given a point value (4 for A, 3.8 for A-. 3.5 for B etc). The points from your pre req, are added to the score on the entrance exam which is then added to the score on the written essay. Top 32 scores got in.  Don't give up hope, just look at the admission process and see if you can make it up somewhere

My friend and I both applied at the same time...I had all A's and B's whereas she had 2 C's (AandP II and Micro)...Other than that our grades were about the same...She didn't get in and I did (BSN program)...They told her that she should really re-take the classes (which she is doing this semseter, I don't think I could handle it)...And re apply in January...

I got in with a C in Micro! Probably because I was a straight A student otherwise and scored a 96% on the HESI.

Stupid Micro.

I got a C in A&P 2...but I was lucky enough to be accepted into the nursing program a few weeks before I was done with the class. Before that, I had mostly A's and some B's...and that is all the admissions committee saw. So, I guess I am not really helpful, lol. Oh, but I did have tons of W's on my transcripts from years ago too. Didn't seem like they factored that in. I think you still have a good chance at finding a school that will accept you!
