Poll: Where are you applying? What's the name of the program(s) you are applying to?

I'll go first. :)

Sacramento State University - both ASBSN and regular BSN

Univ. of Arizona - ASBSN

Univ. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - ASBSN

Univ. of Toledo - BSN

:welcome:

Winston Salem State University-ABSN/BSN

East Carolina University-Alternate Entry MSN

UNC-Chapel Hill-ABSN

All of which are in NC. I'm still taking pre req's so I probably won't apply until Fall 08 to start Spring 09.

Good luck everyone!

I'm in NC too and would love to apply to ECU's program, but they require two semesters of organic chem, which means that I would either have to take an additional year and a half to apply OR take the summer off and just take Organic Chemistry :( I have a BA, but graduated 10 years ago, and some of the prereqs that I took are expired. It's been hard for me to decide which ones to take depending on which programs require what. I had to draw up a spreadsheet to organize every thing So far I've taken Psych 101, A&P, then next semester will be physiology, since those are the ones almost all schools require. I'm applying to nurse-midwifery programs.

For Summer 08 admission I've applied to:

Yale, GEPN

UCSF, MEPN

If that doesn't work out then I'll try again next year, take Micro and either Nutrition or Human Development and add these programs:

Columbia, ETP

UNC, ABSN (maybe Duke)

Marquette, Direct Entry MSN

Medical University of SC, BSN/MSN

UPenn, BSN/MSN

I'm applying to Samuel Merritt's ELMSN program this January for a Fall '08 start date. I took the NET there last night, anyone else?

I would love to go to school out of state if my budget would permit it. Unfortunately I can't afford to. I can barely afford to get this second degree which is why I'm going to try to apply to any and every scholarship available to me because I'm not trying to pay back a butt load in loans once I graduate.

I am however considering VCU, UVA, U. of Tn Health Science Center, as well as the Medical University of SC.

As far as ECU goes, I got my undergrad from there and before I switched my major to IT it was pre nursing. Basically the 2 semesters of general, organic and biochemistry could have all been done in 1 semester. You use the same book for both semesters and basically the first semester covers the first half of the book and the second semester covers the second half. If I were you I'd send them a copy of my transcript and ask them to do a transfer evaluation. You could also ask them if a chemistry class at the school you're taking your pre req's would be equivalent to the chemistry they require you to have in order to apply to the program.

Now Duke is redicously over-priced in my opinion anyway.

UNC hospital has an education loan scholarship program or something like that. I haven't been able to find anything on it. I stumbled on it a couple of months ago, saved it as a file on my computer and had to reformat my hard drive so I no longer have the information.

What I do remember is that for the ABSN program you can get either $24,000 $30,000 or $36,000 for a 2 year, 3 year or 4 year contract with the hospital. The money can be used to cover tuition and other expenses you'd incur while enrolled in the program. and it will be paid in I believe 4 increments throught the duration of the program.

If you know where I can find more information about the scholarship could you please post it here.

Anyway, I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do.

I would just call/email the admissions office and ask them about it. My friend went to the info session last week and said that they talked about it then.

Thanks for the info on ECU.

Sierra College - ADN - waiting to hear back

Shasta College - ADN - waiting to hear back

Cabrillo College - ADN (am now #561 on their wait list...ugh)

College of the Redwoods - ADN (will apply in January; they only have 1 start a year)

Kind of depressing when you list it all out, isn't it.

Not many as of now...dont have all of the necessary prereqs for most of the schools.

Yale GEPN

UCSF MEPN

Georgetown BSN

USF BSN

I'm already nervous!

University of Massachusetts Amherst BSN

Just 1 program locally will allow me to keep my day job as a brand and business manager and work on my degree. It's an ASN program with a community college. I have the micro bio pre req and start the a&p pre req in the spring at the CC. I'm not sure what my plan B is if I don't get in....there is no other evening/weekend school locally....

For now, just because the timing is right, I'm applying at Highline Community College for the ADN program.

I'm not expecting to get in, but if I do, cool.

If not, I'll take the rest of my pre reqs for a BSN and then try applying for some of the other ADN programs at other CC's, and for BSN programs at:

The University of Washington

Pacific Lutheran University

Seattle University

and Seattle Pacific University

also, I was thinking of trying to apply a couple of places in TX (where I'm originally from)...

UT Austin (a reach school for sure, but I'd love to get in there).

UTHSCSA (San Antonio)

possibly at Texas State University too, if they've started their nursing program yet by the time I get to that point.

Hey guys-

I'm in NC too, and am really only looking at 2 program (UNC ABSN and WCU's new ABSN program). I made my fiancee move down to this area (Durham/Chapel Hill) a year and a half ago from Asheville so I could attend law school (let's just say that didn't work out so well), so I'm really in no position to ask him to relocate again, unless it's back to Asheville where he wants to be anyway. Unfortunately, from what I hear UNC's ABSN is very competitive, and WCU's program has some ridiculous pre-reqs (I need about 6, whereas I only need 3 for UNC's program, in addition to the TEAS exam, and an in-person interview). Yikes! I've also heard some pretty crappy things from people about UNC's program (teachers suck, the admissions process is disorganized), so I'm pretty down about it right now. I also feel like I'm never going to get through the pre-reqs. (because I can only take one class at a time with the crazy job I have), and if I quit and get a part-time job, I could be setting myself up for disaster (i.e. taking the financial hit and finishing the classes, but not getting in to the programs). I'm 25 and feel like I'm too old for this! Anyone else feel this way?

Looks like we have something in common. I tried the whole law school thing too, and lets just say the realization of $80K of tuition was a bit overwhelming/pointless when I want to stay home part-time with my kids one day anyways. It just didn't seem like the payoff was worth it. I only have one more prereq (A&PII) left, and I'm in the middle of applications for Summer and Fall of 08.

I'm applying to UT Health Science Center- Houston (Accelerated BSN) and Prairie View (traditional). I am 24, and I have a B.A. in Economics, so yes, I feel like I'm getting a little old for this as well:uhoh3:.

Yup. Those were my thoughts (almost exactly) and the reasons that I left law school after a year--although most of my family doesn't really get that, and it sucks to feel like a quitter, regardless of how rational the decision seems.

Are you taking just one pre-req. at a time, or are you doing more then that? What are you doing for work in the meantime?

Awesome to find someone in the same boat ;)
