  1. I am taking the same class! I may end up having to get a new computer though. I can't seem to access the student success stuff. So far I haven't had any other problems. "See" you there.
  2. Are you taking one or two classes a semester? How are you liking it? Tips?
  3. Thanks, I started yesterday.
  4. Hello! I hope to find others who are starting their journey towards their BSN here. I have taken online classes before, but never any nursing ones. Is there anything I should invest in (flash drive, notebooks, etc?) My computer is about 7 years old, so I hope it survives. Any study tips specific to online classes?
  5. Thank you for the input!
  6. Thanks for your input!
  7. Hello everyone. I am this close to making a decision between these schools and I am looking for some current info/advice. On the one hand, GCU is less expensive, but Chamberlain has minimal group activities (yay!). I have more classes to take at Chamberlain, but that doesn't really factor in that much, for me. As far as I know, both are CCNE accredited. I only work part time, so while I am getting some tuition reimbursement, I am still going to pay out of pocket, regardless of school. I get a 15% discount at Chamberlain and a 10% discount at GCU. GCU classes are 5 weeks long and Chamberlain's are 8 weeks. Someone, please give me some insight, I will be eternally grateful to you! Thanks again!
  8. I know this is an old thread, but we are starting to implement the Planetree model at our small hospital. I am hoping to attend the International conference in Chicago later this year. Have you been? I've never been to any conferences, so any tips or tricks would be most helpful!
  9. I am starting their RN to BSN on the same day. I have an issue actually getting onto the myJU page, but I don't think it will hinder me once I get it solved. Good luck to you!
  10. I graduated from an ADN program in 2011. Got a job at a surgery center and an endoscopy center about 6 months later, and that's where I've been. Mostly I work in recovery, and mostly phase II patients, with some phase I thrown into the mix. I'd really like to be a scrub or circulator, but my boss won't train an RN to scrub so he doesn't have to pay an RN's wages (we have an LVN scrub, and an unlicensed person training now, I think). I'm considering going back to school to get a surg tech degree and then possibly looking for another job. I already have 3 other associate's degrees (not health care related). Your thoughts?
  11. At our facility, the sedation nurse lets the recovery nurse know if cautery was used. Then the discharge form has a spot where you can check off that the pt has to avoid NSAID's for 2 weeks (in the case of cautery), or indefinitely, as the doc sees fit. Of course, if the pt has a cardiologist, we inform them, and then they dictate whether it's safe for the pt to be off their med for 2 weeks or not.

  13. I work at an endoscopy center (and a freestanding surgery center). A few times, we've had patients lie to us about how they are getting home, and they've ended up returning to their cars, and driving home. Of course we find this out too late to get a license number. Once, myself and another nurse walked around the hospital across the street to see if we could locate the car, but the patient had already left in it, after giving us vague directions as to where he had parked. I am responsible for my patients' safety, and ultimately that of the general public, as I mostly work in recovery/PACU. Any ideas on how we can combat this problem?
  14. Hey there. I applied to an endoscopy center about 6 months after nursing school. I had no hospital experience at all, and I got the job. Yes, I had to basically learn IV starts again, but the patients were, with a few exceptions, really understanding. I mostly work in recovery, and really love it. Our patients are mostly fairly healthy. While it's not quite the same situation as yours, I just wanted to give you some hope!
  15. Thanks for the information. I'll be checking their website shortly!
