I'm just curious, how far do you drive to attend your program? My sister drives 35 minutes each way, each day just to attend her lpn program. I'm going to have to drive an hour each way just to attend a part time program. I just wanted to see if anyone else out there has a drive just to attend nursing school.
Thanks,
Marci

I attended LVN school in 2005 and drove 95 miles one-way Monday through Friday. It took about 90 minutes to travel to school each way. At that time, I was putting 4,000 miles on my vehicle monthly.

Me too, it was 1 1/2 hour commute each way, about 185 miles per day either 4 or 5 days a week depending on the semester. I usually left 2 hours early to allow for traffic and even though getting up at 3:30 am for clinicals wasn't ideal it was ok. Although it was expensive, most times I didn't mind the ride, it was my only alone time when no one was expecting something from me, lol.

I'm not driving at the moment but have been taking public transit and it takes me 1 1/2 hours one way.If I miss the bus that takes me directly to school it takes 2 hours
Wow, I thought my one hour each way (100 miles round trip) was bad just to travel to an evening/weekend program. I thank you all so much for putting the traveling into perspective for me.

Okay, I'll be the really wacky one here.
My husband was transferred from Fort Wayne, Indiana to rural West Texas, with me only having one semester of the LPN program to complete....I tried to find a way to complete the program in Texas, but I was so close to graduation that I was unable to do so. Long story shot, I could either start all over or find some way to complete the program I was in....or give up completely....
So after much discussion, and thought and prayer, I finished my final semester....Flying in on Monday, flying out on Friday....
45 miles from our rural Texas town to the nearest "big city" with a regional airport. Regional airport to dallas fort worth, DFW, to Fort wayne regional....thank goodness that ft wayne has a triad hospital and American Airlines flies direct from DFW to FWA....
Miles? I drove my car home after my last week at class....1300 or so, so my weekly commute was....2600...
Gave my classmates some grief, my teachers said they would never accept the multitude of excuses for not attending class after seeing my commitment.... :-)
Me? I'm just grateful that the semester is over, I graduated Dec 2006, and am currently studying for my boards.

about 60-90 min, depending on traffic and location of clinical. What a pain in the a--. Not to mention the expense and wear and tear on the car. Thank God I make enough now to make it worthwhile.

I thought i was out of my mind for going to a school so far away-my drive time is about 50-55 minutes each way to the school I will be attending at the end of the month! I'm so glad someone started this thread!

I have to give you a hand:yeah:! I drive approx 15-17 miles door to door. If I didn't have any options for schools, I would have joined the ranks of students who commute so far.
