  1. and actually not be? The advisors and even a few students of a nameless school have all said that they are nationally accredited but I looked on the NLNAC and CCNE websites and the school is not listed anywhere. Is there another way to find out or am I just stuck with the fact that they are not accredited because they're not listed?:grn:
  2. My cc's waitlist is 3 years for the ADN,I don't know what to do because I'm not sure if I can wait that long! That's after 2-3 years of pre-reqs.How long were you waitlisted and do you wish you would have gone elsewhere?
  3. i want to get into nursing asap because i desparately need to make more $,i must add that this is not the reason i chose nursing.i really need to work and the community college i'm attending accomodates my schedule but there is a 2 year waiting list for adn which makes the total length 4-4 1/2 years.i could go to a local university for bsn and still be able to work but i would have to take 2- 2 1/2 years of pre-reqs and earn at least a 3.5 gpa to get in the nursing portion and i'm not sure if i could earn grades that good.there are 3 other schools that offer lpn but one is not yet approved for federal loans, the second lpn school i could not work at all because neither day or evening classes in this program leaves enough time for anything else,oh and it's very expensive.the third lpn school is closest, cheapest and not to mention no waitng lists but public transportation does not get me nearly close enogh without walking for an hour after getting off the bus.i do know for sure that i want to go all the way to masters, either nnp or crna,so i need 2 0r 3 years icu experience depending on which specialty i choose.i don't know which school and program to choose and it's driving me nuts!!!!!!!!! please give me some advice,it would be greatly appreciated.:thnkg::hdvwl:
  4. I'm having the same issue between two programs here in Ohio, are you coincidently in the same state?
  5. Has anyone here worked 2 jobs,p/t and f/t,while in nursing school? How long? Was it too much to handle at once or just out of pure necessity to pay for school, bills and such? This may be my only option besides putting off school for another year(NO!!!) so I'm just trying to gain some insight from those of you who have been in the same boat. Thanks :selfbonk:
  6. Only if I absolutely had no other choice!!! To make a very long, very touchy story short my grandmother fell and broke her hip and needed therapy,my family is not well off by any means so we had no choice but to take her to a facility til she was well enough to bring her home.I never missed a day of visiting her out of the whole 2 month ordeal and she was still treated terribly without my family even knowing until about 2 weeks before she passed and we moved her to another facility. She was in a comatose stage, forced fed, terrible bed sores from head to toe, pneumonia off and on along with many other complications that arised during the time she was there.Ultimately they attempted to force her into doing therapy and because she was pure dead weight she ended up with a huge gash in her leg that was never reported, covered up with stockings and a bootie and never treated for as if it never happened!!!!The wound got terribly infected and she died from sepsis exactly 2 months from the day she was put in that awful place. Not every place is this terrible but it's definately not the ideal place for loved ones the majority of times. My heart goes out to these residents and their families that have had to or may have to someday consider this very option.
  7. Ohio....yes,I love it.It gets really stressful at times due to staffing demands and supervisors with bad attitudes constantly barking orders but the residents are all that really matter. It kinda feels like a whole facility full of grandparents(good and bad at times),a family environment LOL
  8. In my area LTC's offer 8 and 12hour shifts with a starting pay of $10.50-12.00/hr plus shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts, and PRN positions with premium pay of $13.00-16.00/hr
  9. I've worked all three shifts and I gotta tell ya they're all totally different to me.First shift was alot more stressful and sucks if you're seriously not a morning person but the work day flies by and you're left with the rest of the day to do whatever you plz.Second shift is not as stressful and you have a little more time to get everything finished but it really does take up most of your day which makes it hard to have a life.Third shift in my opinion was nice because it's almost stress free but it really drags by if you don't find something to keep yourself busy.I guess I'm undecided because there are pros and cons to all three shifts.
  10. I'm in a 1+1 program so LPN first then RN.My plan has long been to get my BSN and possibly MSN(CRNA) so of course everyone has told me to go straight into it and get it over with.I would've gone about it in that way if I wanted to be put on a waiting list, take a boat load of pre-reqs and possibly end up being in school longer than I already knew I would.
  11. OMG how I feel your pain! I have struggled with almost every part of math since grade school and it literally seems to suck the life right out of me every time I attempt to work out math a problem.Quite often I feel like I may just have a learning disability but the kicker is that I'm great in almost every other subject....ahhhhh! I took my entrance exam Tuesday and flunked the math so bad(basic math) that the director even said so,I'm re-taking it Thursday and I WILL pass this time.Try not to fret about it too much cuz it will only hold us back more and if we want this bad enough we will do what it takes, right? Keep your head up,possibly seek tutoring like I am and we'll get through this together :)
  12. Until NS starts in mid April,I'm anxious to get this ball rolling and the boredom is slowly getting to me.Any suggestions?!:roll :pumpiron:
  13. How similar are the HESI A2 and TEAS exams? Same thing or totally different?
  14. My ultimate goal is to become a CRNA,I'll be starting out with an ADN vs. BSN so I can enter the field sooner. Is it possible and/or would it be better to gain the required ICU experience to enter a CRNA program with an ADN while I'm working on my BSN vs. finishing my BSN first then working in ICU? If so,wouldn't the the 2+ years of ICU experience on my application appear to be better than the minimum of 1 year?:flowersfo
  15. Were any of you accepted into the program without adult ICU experience but with PICU/NICU or any other ICU experience? FYI:I've lived in Cincinnati my whole life and do not recommend living Downtown or on the West side of town unless it's Bridgetown or Cheviot.
