My closest friend, an RN, who is one of the most kind, caring people I've ever known -- has been ill for quite awhile. Many doctors/many unanswered questions. Went to a highly regarded neurologist "high probability for MS." She's having her spinal tap soon. One more question -- how has MS -- whether you have it or someone close to you has it -- impacted your life?
Please pray for my friend. One thing I wish for all of you out there -- you have someone in your life as wonderful as she is.
The spinal tap is also sometimes used to rule out anything else that could possibly be causing the symptoms. MS is often a diagnosis given after everything else is rule out.

My mother-in-law was blind and paralyzed on one side in her mid fourties. With exercise and Prednisone all function returned and she Graduated from LPN program at age 52 and was able to work 10 years till retirement in 1982.

I'm so sorry for her illness.
I recently had symptoms associated with M.S. I had a MRI to my spine/brain. No lesions. But in some cases the symptoms don't initially show up in the MRI.
The weeks feeling ill....weak, extremely tired, numbness and I had blurred vision were scary. I think the biggest fear with M.S. is the unknown. At least that's what I feared in those weeks. But my parent's and hubby were great and so supportive. They were there helping me with my kids. (taking care of them while I rested and went to Dr.'s)
To my relief the M.R.I came back negative.
I know two people with M.S. My g.f.'s dad has it and is W/C bound. And my best friend's Aunt has it and is able body as you and I....and she's had the dx. for 20 plus years.
There's a lot of great sites. I wish I remembered where they were. But put in Multiple Sclerosis....there's an abundant of information....even on supporting love one's.

Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers ... I have relayed them to my friend. Will know more after her spinal tap. I'm thankful that she has a supportive husband and kids. This person is usually everyone else's "rock" -- I know she will do very well (the best she can) once she sets her mind to it. She's been sick for so many years (well over six years) -- although the dianosis is difficult, I'm hoping she will do better once she gets started on a treatment plan. Once again, please keep the prayers coming. Anyone out there working as an RN with MS?
SusanMary, it is sad to even think of losing a friend or loved one. When it comes to dibilitating illness, we really are hurt. I don't want you to feel pain, and I will be thinking of this post tomorrow. You can share in knowing others have went through this, and make the best of every day. I hope I don't sound too glum. this may turn out to be the first step of a cure. No one likes to not know. Be strong and be brave because you can. It's okay to be super bummed and frightened by things. I'm sorry :-)
I have a friend with MS, has been paralyzed for twenty+ yrs. she is an AWESOME lady. She still is at the center of her family. Kids, grandkids, sister in-law etc all drop by there almost daily. She is the glue that holds the family together. And if one ever needs any information just ask her! I just spent the day with her today at the hosp (trach change +other routine stuff). She is still so active in her life even though the only muscles she can move are in her face. I know this is hard and still is hard for her and her husband. There will be good and there will be bad, but a major part of this will be your friends attitude. Much Love and Prayers
