JHUnurse, I'm not married to a dr, but I like the way you think! Specifically: "Let's face it, my nursing salary will not be enough to live in NYC, where I want to live, AND support a family." I can't help it, I LOVE NYC!

I hate managers like that. :angryfire I'm a student, but I've had managers in other jobs that were the same way. Somedays you feel like what's the point?!?! It doesn't help if you're new either. Why do managers, ALL managers, always blast employees for what they do WRONG? Where's the morale in that? I don't mind being told I'm doing something wrong, or could handle something differently, but let me leave the room knowing what I need to improve on, and something positive as dessert. Just like my last job. The manager beat me down and made me paranoid. I was semi-good friends with the supervisor, which later bit me in the ass, and she would tell me that the manager liked me and the way I worked, and a few other good things. I was like, then why can't HE tell me these things??? Ugh, I'm so glad I don't work there anymore.

I'm not a nurse yet, but I have to agree with Sleepyeyes. The nosey nurse has no business tending to everyone elses patients, except her own! If the pts family has questions...hunt the pts nurse down!

OUCH, BIG OUCH!!!! You've got your nipples pierced!?! Did it hurt? :imbar Since I've had my tongue pierced, even though I took it out, I tease my hubby about getting mine pierced. He's a good ol' boy from west Texas and any piercing, other than ears, makes his skin crawl. In reality, I don't think I have the b#lls to do it!

IMHO, I really think people who deal with the public like dr's, and nurses should not have a tongue ring. There are so many things that could go wrong there...I don't even want to list the reasons. Not EVERYONE is going to have an open mind when it comes to piercings, especially body piercings. Tongue piercings are just too distracting. Trust me, I do not have a closed mind...but I have to agree with Heather...I would tell the nurse to turn around and go find the supervisor. I know everyone is not going to agree with my opinions...but I have been on both sides of the table....management and an employee with a tongue piercing. I was fortunate to have a accounting job when I had my tongue piercing. And the only interaction I had with the public was over the phone or email. I had problems speaking after my tongue piercing because of the swelling. As hard as I tried to speak correctly, there was no way around it. kcsunshyn8...I don't think it's so much of a judgement. Hospitals, post offices, dentist offices, restaurants, etc...all have to keep up with dress codes and rules. I really don't think it's a judgement, it's just not, for lack of a better word, professional. When I managed a movie theatre, we had a girl there with her nose pierced. Anytime she was scheduled, whether it be the box office, concession, or ticket taker, she had to remove her nose ring. I later heard she made it to assistant manager - but she didn't wear her nose ring.

This is a very good idea that I had in my head and was trying to find a way to say it. Although I've never had my belly button pierced, I would think about it if my belly button was belly button piercing material. :rotfl: After my divorce, I did have my tongue pierced...for NO other reason than I just always wanted it done. I was very particular about it too, because the last thing you want is your tongue to become infected. Since I paid $60 to have it done, the condition was to keep it for at least a year, and then decide what to do. It got on my nerves and I took it out at 11 months. I was in my late 20's when I did this, and even then my Mother said, "don't tell your Father!" :chuckle: Daddy noticed at Thanksgiving when I was talking to him. He just gave me THE "look". I took it out the next year for Father's Day. :rotfl: I even have a small tattoo on my ankle - which I paid for and followed the letter of the law in the healing process. Of course my Mother, once again....was livid at what I had done. She's so funny. I like my tattoo, but want to turn it into something else, and still keep it small. As small as it is, I was amazed at how this lady noticed it at work when I had a dress on and black hose!!! I'm like, what are you doing looking at my ankle??? I asked a guy this same question last year when he noticed my tattoo. I would let your daughter get her belly button pierced, following Linda's ideas up at the top. I would say no to the tattoo, in the event she gets older and regrets getting it done. She can always take the piercing out.

Student loans...enough to make my skin crawl! I swear I'm going to be paying student loans until God knows when. I'm not even done yet either. I applied for financial aid for the community college I'm attending. Well, I've already got 88 hours transfered in from another school. Now they tell me they have a 90 hour cap on Fin.Aid. After all the work I did to get my stuff together to apply, and THEN they tell me. The community college is affordable, and I'd prefer not to get any loans. I have an interview on Thursday working for a hotel. Out of all the resumes I've sent out they were the only one to bite. I need the money, the hours are great, and it will get me out of the hole we're in. This is just enough to get us to through until I am an RN.

Bummer! Sundowner I was hoping for a different outcome somehow. Did anything happen to Bertha? Where's she at...I'll kick her azz!?!?! I need to make a trip to Pgh anyway, my sister owes me $700 and we really need the money right now.

I've had some odd dreams lately. I have high anxiety about my Biology mid-term on Friday, so I'm not in bed early, and feel so unprepared. Lastnight I dreamed that I was with a friend and her mother (no idea who these people were) and we were doing something and getting all stressed about it, so I suggested we go for a drive and see the city lights. We were going around I-20 and this lady decided to take a leap off the bridge, with all of us in the car, we ended up crashing. While none of us were killed, she and her daughter decided they were going to sue MY insurance company because I suggested we go for a drive! I've mentioned that last year my Dad and Grandma passed away six months apart. Well, my Grandma had a lot of pyrex (corning ware type dishes) dishes she used and my Mom split the dishes between my sister and me. A few weeks ago I dreamed about my Grandma and I talking about these dishes. She had the most beautiful white evening gown on, and she was telling me which cabinet to put the dishes in. I was asleep, and I'm a deep sleeper - once she told me which cabinets to put the dishes in, I actually got up out of bed and started heading for the kitchen when I realized what was going on.

Apparently, it has been said, the couple was having marital and financial problems. Still, WTH was he thinking!?!?!? Sounded like a cute couple...a nurse and a fire fighter.

shootemrn --- I think I AM going to toss my cookies after reading that. HEATHER, where is that puking smiley????

Update: They reported on the news this week that the husband requested a lower bail and was DENIED. (that's the good news) The bad news: Other than the fact that he shot his wife DEAD, is that her friend, Alisa Stewart, that he shot in the back, will never be able to walk again.

I'm 31 and starting my pre-req's June 3. I would like to have those done by the end of the year, but I don't think it will be possible. I'll probably be 33 when I graduate in the ADN program. I thought all my questions were answered when I met with the nursing advisor earlier this month, now I'm not so sure.
