Please don't judge....it's been 13 years since graduated RN and debating the NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am going to make a long story short. I graduated in 1999 with my LPN and passed boards on 1st try. I immediately started RN school and graduated in 2001. I have taken the NCLEX RN 3-4 times and have failed. On the paper they sent me in the mail I was almost on the line of passing and there was no particular area I needed help in. I worked as an LPN until 2008. Married in 2004, child in 2006 and twins in 2008. I then quit work to raise my kids. I am now and am haunted on a regular basis about the fact that I haven't passed my boards. It eats at me and I feel like a FAILURE!!!!!!! A friend just graduated RN and passed her boards and let me take one of the ATI comprehensive tests, not the predictor and I got 77%. I have no idea how to prepare or if I should even persue the dream of becoming an RN. I mean afterall that is all that is between me and my RN is a freaking test. Does anyone have any insight on the 77% or any advice at all???????????????

THANKS!!!

Awesome!!! That's the attitude!!! I started in October just a little, didn't study at all in November or December but have been at it regularly since January! I am a great nurse and I have never doubted that but going from the Real world to NCLEX world is hard for me but something just clicked and I started to get it. Now I am gonna need lots of prayers on the 28th. I can't wait to tell you I passed!

Good for you!!! We will be pulling for you on the 28th!!

You go girl (or boy)! You have lived a good life and now it is time for you to advance your career. Don't let fear stop you, don't let the NCLEX intimidate you. Study, get your nerves under control, and charge ahead! There is NOTHING as challenging as what you already have in your rearview mirror. I've been a LPN for years and am about to sit for my RN boards. And oh yeah, I have twins and more too. Your past with the NCLEX is over and it's time for you to move forward. I am proud of you! I am proud of US! :smug:

Your percentage is good but I would do a comprehensive NCLEX review just because it has been so long. You definitely should not give up I got a private NCLEX review and it helped me a great deal. There are so many resources for you find one that works for your current schedule and DO IT! I am new to this site but excited for everyone and their journey through nursing!

APERRY5675 I can't wait to hear about your success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I work full time and have 4 boys 13,12,11, & 4. I usually study in the evenings or weekends but with the phone apps I study anywhere. Saunders is a great book, so is the NCSBN. I think it's just a mind thing, you have to get the mindset that you CAN do it.

I also have four kids and worked full time through most of nursing school. If you want it bad enough, you can and will do it!

I am in the same boat. Life changed and I had to roll with the punches. But Im preparing now and sometimes I wonder if I am studying proficiently??

I did not renew my RN, back then it went in mail and I got married had kids and moved three times- missed the renewal. I called my state and they said sorry retake 20 years later, I quit my job and retook the test today!!!!! did the PV trick and I think I passed!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

pray hard and God will grant you anything!!!

WOW rosepetals12! Good for you!!!! Have you worked in the last 20 years?

I thought that if you didn't pass the NCLEX within a certain period of time, you had to take some sort of "refresher course" in order to get an authorization to test again. Or am I thinking of something else?

Every state is different. I live in Iowa and that is not the case here.

I worked has an EMT-basic (took that test too) and a firefighter. Great job but has surgery and decided at my age I should quit. I also did work has a case manager- doing social worker type stuff. The state of Wisconsin does not require a refresher. I worked with a bunch of young nurses who said I could do it and hleped me with books and websites. They are awesome!
