Please don't judge me...I need advice please.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

I have approx. 4 more classes to take before I can apply to a nursing program next fall. As a teenager, (I am now in my late 30's) I had zero guidance when it came to school, and I had to overcome a lot of obstacles with a dysfunctional family. As a result, I was all over the place when it came to school and I had no direction.

My problem is this: As a 16 year-old clueless girl, I took several classes that I should have withdrawn from in order to receive a "W" on my transcript. But because I didn't know you were supposed to do that, I received three F's that are now part of my history. My grades are primarily A's and B's (with a few C's received as a kid), but now I feel like an idiot because I have those "F's" which should have been withdrawals in the first place. To make matters WORSE, (and this is the "don't judge me" part,) when I returned to school as an adult, I attempted to take anatomy THREE TIMES (while working full-time) and EACH AND EVERY TIME I tried, I couldn't complete the class because of my draining schedule. The worst part was, every time I enrolled in anatomy, I withdrew past the last withdrawal date, and guess what? Yup, F's each time. I could have easily given up then and there, but I didn't. So NOW--my circumstances are finally right for me and I'm glad to be back in school. I had to enroll in another community college because of their repeat rule (just for the anatomy class), and I'm taking it now as we speak.

As embarrassed as I am by these mistakes, I'm proud of myself for not giving up and having some tenacity.

Does anyone know if writing a strong *Nursing School Entrance Essay* will help me get admittance? My fear is that the nursing schools will judge me for this. I'm just looking for some grace at these nursing schools and I'm hopeful that God will make a way for me. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or comments!

First of all I just want to say that no one really has the right to judge anybody! The ONLY person that has the right to judge you is yourself..and no one else!!!! I honestly don't have an answer for you..but everyone makes mistakes..that's what life is all about! It's one big learning process! Just have faith in yourself.. and you will get to where you want to be!:D

Thanks so much....I'm a firm believer that if you're "where you're supposed to be" in life (generally speaking), God will make a way. Even still, this has been a bone of contention for me! Have a relaxing evening. : )

You're welcome hon!! You'll get to where you want to be! We all make mistakes..especially when we are young!! Girl, I could write a book on mistakes..LOL :lol2:

You can try to get the college to remove the F's from your transcripts.Tell them your circumstances...they will make you fill out some papers and maybe talk to the dean(or someone)..i'm not sure what its called or if ALL schools do this, but I do remember reading about this in my old college materials.

I am sure the nursing school is going to "judge" you based on those F's. It's very much a schools market when it comes to the medical field and nursing is no different. With so many applicants, the schools are often forced to make GPA cutoffs just to make the"stack" bearable. If you don't make that min GPA it won't matter how great your essay is. What you need to do is crush all the courses you take between now and when you apply, this will show that you have learned your lesson, are a capable student and will boost your GPA (by crush I mean A's across the board). I don't envy your situation, going uphill is hard and striving for A's when they will barely put a dent in your GPA can be frustrating; but with alot of hard work backed by faith it is possible. Good luck and keep your nose to the grind stone.

I to did the same mistake when I was younger. Now almost 10 years later I'm paying for it. Fortunately, I have brought my gpa up to almost a 3.0, although I will never be able to get them off my transcript. My collge takes everyone though. So everyone and anyone (like me) gets a chance at their dream. Thank God! There are schools that will still accept you. Make sure to work really hard on your pre-reqs. Good luck to you

You need to do some research and find out what your options are. All the hope and faith in the world are not going to change your situation. Sorry, don't mean to sound pessimistic. I'm just a realist. Applying to programs that will look at the Fs and how many times you repeated, all the hope and faith and the best essay most likely will not get you into that program. My school frowns upon that many repeats and on Fs and you would not get in. I don't know what your chances are at other schools. I have heard of schools, forgiving old grades and removing them. So maybe that is a possibility for you. Some schools may only look at the new grade, and the past failures and repeats may not be taken into account. I am not sure, each school does their own thing. You will have to do the research and find out if any of the schools you are interested in do this.

Good luck!

It's called academic forgiveness. I would try going this route to get the F's removed from your transcript and start with a clean slate. Talk to your school to see if they have this policy and what their rules are regarding this. Good luck!

How long ago did you take the 3 A&Ps you failed?

Under Academic Fresh Start (if your state offers this) your grades 10 years or older can be erased, as in they will not be counted against you in your new studies or programs. By doing this, ALL grades over 10 years old will be eliminated so if you took some other general classes and did well, they will need to be repeated. (if you need them now)

This will not include grades younger than 10 years. If you took them several years ago, you may want to wait until they are 10 years old and have ALL of it erased. (again, if your state/schools offer academic forgiveness.)

The reason I suggest this is because nursing schools are going to see your current attempt at A&P as a FORTH attempt. This will likely (if not definitely) disqualify you for any reputable program. Especially because all three previous attempts were "F". They're not going to bother asking you why you failed.. you'll never get that far in the process.

You REALLY need to look into academic forgiveness and start fresh.

What state do you live in?

How do you find out what states do this? Never heard of it.

Yeah, just check with the school that your are applying to. My school, and I'm in Texas, the science classes/grades would need to have been completed less than five yrs ago to even count. So if you were taking the courses way before the time frame your school gives, you're in the clear. As long as you do well in the class now, of course. Hope that makes sense. I hope everything works out for you hon. :)
