Hi everyone - just wanted to start a new thread for everyone admitted to the LA Pierce College Nursing Program for Fall 2014! Current student input would be helpful as well! :-)
Getting all this stuff done before orientation is so confusing! I was just barely able to register for classes this week - one step done! Has anyone done the health check at Pierce yet?
For the white shoes - do they need to be 100% white? Or can they have a little bit of color. Sometimes the Nike white shoes may have a colored swoosh or something.
Very excited to start soon!!

Hey! I agree, some of the info we got is a little confusing, but I think I am almost done! I did my labs, TB tests, and physical all through Pierce's health center. If I were you, I would call them tomorrow and set up your appointments. It takes 2 weeks to complete all 3 appointments and they take care of all your health requirements! (I think that's what you meant by health check?)
Also, I'm not sure about the shoes. I'm sure they will talk about that more in detail at the orientation!
Can't wait to start :-)
1st semester has great clinical instructors. You will be mostly shadowing an RN for your first clinical rotation. You will be responsible for the CNA duties of your patient like giving a bed bath, helping them ambulate to the restroom, etc. On occasion you will give meds with your instructor including injections, hanging IVPBs and what not. Most people will fail out of the program because of lecture, not the clinical portion. We lost 15 people by the end of 1st semester. The program is tough but it's not impossible, just takes hard work and a love for nursing.

I worked a little bit last semester. I do have students in my class who work full time. 76% is passing. Straight A's is an extremely difficult task to pull off in nursing school, I got all A's in my science pre reqs but so far have 2 A's and 4 B's throughout this program. I gave the previous semester all my study guides for 1st semester which I can give to you guys that should help ease the burden of studying.
