PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone!

I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?

Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!

Thanks!

I slipped a $100 bill in with my app. That might have gotten me some extra points haha.

In all seriously, like I been saying, I'm sure the GPA + TEST + Residency isn't concrete. I wouldn't be surprised if they just threw darts on a huge dartboard of names of applicants.

I'm looking for part-time work that pays decent and I can do around the school schedule. Apparently evening/weekend jobs are in short supply that pay at least $10/hr. Any suggestions around that?

Just saw this...

Warning- long post. Sorry!

Ok, I called the school to inquire about being declined for the RN program. They said the denial for the RN program is correct, and the acceptance letters for both LPN programs are also correct. I

explained I'm a member of this group, and, that we share info. I stated my scores are higher than others who were accepted, and am confused about the decision.

With scores like yours why don't you apply to HCC or SPC? If I had my choice I'd MUCH rather be at HCC but their program is insane competitive and my 3.0 GPA won't give me a chance even for their transition program.

I heard the HCC program is awful. I know a few students who transferred here to get away from it and other in the. Field that say the students aren't prepared when they show up for clinicals and that the teachers just don't care to teach when you come up and ask questions. That's that influenced my decision to come to PHSC.

On the flip side I heard a lot of great things about SPC it was just way to far for me.

I've also heard HCC was very competitive, but I never thought of going there. I live by virtually no college so commute for me is atleast 30min to phsc. Can't imagine hcc travel time.

That's funny because it was my A&P II professor at HCC who recommended PHSC to the class as an excellent choice to get their RN and BSN lol

Who was your A&P professor? I had Hanak, he came from HCC and was so excited to get away from there and join PHSC.

I had Gregory Bohm and he was by far my greatest professor ever. Did not lecture from a power point and made sure we all knew how the systems worked and broke everything down for us. Made the information very entertaining. One of those teachers you only see in inspirational movies. He was wayyyy to smart to be teaching at a community college.

That's awesome!!

No, cost doesnt include books or supplies. Only covers cost of classes and lab fees (including ATI access). All other supplies and uniforms and books are extra. Try Craigslist for previous students selling. Or amazon, i got mine pretty cheap.

Its not letting me quote tonight, sorry!! Admissions has already gone over everything you have taken and need to take. They will give you a print out and register you for the nursing classes only. You will need to register for the remaining on your own. :-)

Thanks, that's what I thought. I just registered for my other class so I am full time.
