The individual who give the med takes all responsibility, the charge nurse name is no where documented.

Medication administration confusion???
Hello everyone! I am a nurse who is newer to dialysis. I have only been working there for a short period of time, but I am concerned about their medication administration to patients. There is a charge nurse (RN) who is responsible for drawing up all of the medications for the clinic. If there is a LPN, or RN who is running a pod of 4 patients they are expected to administer the medication. I have a few concerns with this process. The charge nurse draws with a syringe from a vial, after drawing from the vial she labels the syringe, with the medication and initials. Once this is completed she drops them off for the other nurses to administer. This goes against my fundamental principles of what I have been taught and practice as a nurse, You don't give medications you do not draw up yourself, and then chart them off! How am I supposed to do my rights of medication administration? I didn't see what was drawn up into that syringe.... I have to rely on the charge nurse to draw the correct medication, and then label it correctly. I am looking for advice, because the manager doesn't care about my concerns. I mentioned it to the charge nurse as well and she agrees with me and about the nursing standard of practice, but she says this is how it works, we're in the real world not the ivory tower. How should I approach this? what should be done?

What we found out, is that people who lived 5 min from porter had to drive to west and vice versa lol. Clinical site is not picked by location either, some people drove 50min+ for clinical sites.

You are misinformed about clinical locations..... Let me give you a run down... Basically funds had OAKHILLL, Spring hill hospital, Bayonet point, and Bayfront. Adult 1 has Oakhill, Trinity and Springhill health and rehab. They randomly give you a location it isn't based on where you live... Clinical sites are dependent on where you are in the program. It doesn't depend on what hospitals are available, I don't know where your friend heard that... PHSC has first dibs on the hospitals and your observational experience over all other schools. It has nothing to do with money, the people who work at the hospitals around here are 60% phsc grads and favor our program. (West campus sites) Yes being a resident gives you 5%, whoever gets in goodluck with the titer, vaccine physical etc run, first couple weeks are always hard for beginners in the program, but you'll get used to it. I will give everyone a tip on how to pass, print the powerpoints, read the laps, and do the test preps. You'll be golden. (Book is helpful for test prep) No one bothers reading all the chapters. People who work in the program are having a difficult time, I advise anyone who is working full time cut to part time. Most people in the program work as waitress/bartender/CNA's, The cna's work prn 1-2 days a week 12hr shifts.

The second step is to divide your TEAS by 2. The third step is to add 5 points if you are a Pasco or Hernando resident. Add your scores and that is your composite. Example: GPA 4.0*25=100*.45=45 TEAS 80/2=40 Resident +5 45+40+5= would have an entrance score of 90 for the program

Desperately in need of advice before school!!!!
That's a good idea in my opinion, like people have said before me the only two route to bridge over to RN is from paramedic or LPN/LVN programs. However, when you bridge from paramedic it does take a little longer compared to LPN. RN is a great field imo there is many different areas you can work, and the diversity of jobs I love!

I've also heard HCC was very competitive, but I never thought of going there. I live by virtually no college so commute for me is atleast 30min to phsc. Can't imagine hcc travel time.

Working while in school
I would say max anyone should work while in college (going full time) is a 15-25 hr part time job. This is doing pre reqs or in nursing school. When I was doing my pre reqs I had the same problem as you. Thankfully my parents understood I was stressing and struggling to keep up and they told me it was alright to quit my Job. I do have a very hard time learning even all throughout high school I was in co teach etc. Anyhow, my pre req Gpa was a 3.77 and 69 teas, I got into the nursing program and will start soon. Over all gpa is 3.75/ with 37 credits. When in nursing school a lot of people don't work. The ones who do work are the ones who are older and have bills to pay usually. I'm blessed to have very supportive parents. I don't really know how else to help you but to tell you you're not alone, maybe show your parents My comment so they can understand it`s not easy.

LVN job opportunities
It depends on where you live, honestly they are phasing out LVN/LPN in hospital setting somewhat. It`s more common to find LVN/LPN in schools, correction, doctor offices, home health. If you decide to enter this program, you could always bridge to an RN, but keep in mind ADN are also having a harder time in some areas of the USA as well. So looking towards a BSN is a good choice if you want to go further. Maybe adding your state could help other people out on how to answer, good luck.
