PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone!

I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?

Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!

Thanks!

Has anyone who was chosen as an alternate heard anything yet? Wondering when they will let those people know something.

Keep those fingers crossed. I imagine the alternates will start hearing something by the end of next week. They were processing all the acceptance letters to get the packets out so I am sure the alternates will start hearing something in the same time frame; however, like someone stated earlier it could be up to a few days before classes start.

Once you make it through Fundamentals you are eligible to take state certification and get your CNA lisence.

I was told from a nurse at Moffitt you don't even need to take the CNA test, you would just apply for a nurse tech job and show them proof from school. I could be wrong though.

I have heard similar.

Specializes in LPN.

I'm pretty sure you need to have your CNA license from the Florida Board of Nursing to practice as a CNA. Fun fact. I had my CNA license and LPN license when I applied for a CNA position since there were no nursing positions available at the nursing home. They told me it's illegal for me to work as a CNA while holding an LPN license.

I disagree. I learned so much working as a med tech/cna for several years. I knew most of my meds before lpn school working as a med tech. I also developed time management, effects of medication on the elderly, diabetes 101 and so on. CNA's rock!

In Florida, school is not required to be a CNA. One just needs to pass the state test.

Warning- long post. Sorry!

Ok, I called the school to inquire about being declined for the RN program. They said the denial for the RN program is correct, and the acceptance letters for both LPN programs are also correct. I

explained I'm a member of this group, and, that we share info. I stated my scores are higher than others who were accepted, and am confused about the decision. She told me they don't go into specifics regarding a denial; however, she did confirm we (our group) are calculating scores correctly.

She then told me, and I quote, "Maybe they're lying about their scores and information." I asked her if she was joking and she said no. I almost dropped the phone. I still can't believe she said that. I've reported her to the dean, and president of the college, verbally and in writing.

She then congratulated me on being accepted to both LPN programs, and said I had the highest scores regarding the people accepted to the LPN program. I think someone had vodka with their fruitloops, or didn't take her medication, lol.

Naturally, I called back and spoke with someone else. She said info is correct, they don't go into specifics regarding denials and suggested I either enter the LPN program or wait and apply to the RN program again. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason, so, maybe this is where I'm supposed to be? Thank you for the comments of support and concern. It means a lot to me.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Sunny-day- Rejection sucks but please don't give up. Apply next round! good luck

Even better. But you can work in hospice with your CNA as some companys pay as much as 15.00 hour.

Sunny-Day, WOW... I wish there was something else to do. Maybe try and meet the Nursing Dean in person? Something just does not seem right! It honestly sounds like some one miscalculated something on their end but who knows. Possibly ask what grades they used in calculating your scores...
