Hey everyone!
I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?
Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!
Thanks!
Scarlet....just curious...if you are already in the program then why are you so interested in the books, if we got our packet yet, etc.?
I remember what it was like being on your end...not knowing what to expect etc. Luckily, last year we had someone in our thread who was already in the program that was always there to shed a little light.
I'll politely bow out of your thread - I didnt mean to intrude...best wishes to you all.
As for the book list - someone in my class mentioned they were going to switch books and I just wanted to see if it would effect the books I had already purchased (the new list is not up yet for us).
Good, at least you got the packets right away. Did they give you assigned dates/times to bring everything completed to the nursing office? That's what they did last fall - we had to show up on a designated date with all of our packet info complete in order to get a ticket into orientation.I feel bad for you guys....I remember thinking there was a ton of stuff to get done and I had over a month to get it all done.
Make sure your packet is complete before you go to turn it in or they will just make you come right back.
Did they include a booklist in the packet? If so, would someone mind posting it....I want to see if they changed anything.
Scarlettjones...I agree with almostthere15 & WithValor: yes, there's a lot for us to complete in our packets...but sharing any portion of that would be detrimental to our position in the nursing program. As a current student you should be well aware of this factor and I can't see why you would even pose these questions. I would think you could speak to your instructors and get the info you seek.
I have no idea what kind of letter they're sending. Due to the fact the deadline to accept a seat was today and orientation is next Monday, I'm going out on a limb and saying it'll be a denial. Honestly, though, all of this time has given me time to think and I don't think nursing is right for me since I've had arthritis for 7 years and as much as I love helping people, physically, I don't think I could do it.If it is a denial letter, I won't be reapplying, that is completely unjust and unfair and there is no way I want to be associated with the program if someone with my scores wasn't allowed in. Plus, in two years I'd like to say I have a bachelors, not an associates that took me five years.
Corey...while I a. Sorry that you haven't received an acceptance letter into the program, I can't help but be a bit
Not sure what happened to my last post, but what I was trying to say is that, Corey...I'm sorry that you haven't received an acceptance letter to the program yet, (especially considering that your composite score is higher than the rest of ours), but I can't help but be offended by your response to this. I know that I personally worked my butt off in order to not only meet the requirements set by PHSC to apply to the program, but exceed them and be considered competitive, as I'm sure we all did. I can't say that I understand why you weren't chosen, but please don't undermine the integrity of the school, program, or applicants through the implication that something is amiss due to the fact that you didn't get accepted based on your exemplary scores...especially when followed by the statement that in hindsight you don't think you would be physically capable of performing the role of an RN due to chronic arthritis given ample time to think about it. And please don't add insult to injury by implying that the 2 year associate degree those of us accepted into the RN program will graduate with, (God willing), isn't good enough. I for one will be more than proud of the degree I've earned and pray that it translates into me passing the NCLEX exam and becoming an RN. I am truly sorry that you haven't received the response you had expected, (rightly so), and pray that things work out in the best way possible for you.
I'm sure many will disagree with my take on this and I apologize if my post offends anyone. While I stand by my own personal response to Corey's post, I don't want to trample on anyone else's feelings or imply that my opinion is held by others. I'm happy for all who were accepted and sorry for those who were not.
First, I'd like to say that I never meant to offend anyone and I apologize if anything I said so much as rubbed someone the wrong way.
Secondly, I WOULD NEVER purposely insult the integrity of the students that have applied for the nursing program or the current students. I know more than most the amount of work and dedication that goes into getting a good GPA and receiving a competitive TEAS score.
My only slight against the integrity of the school is only applicable if they are using other criteria than what they tell students and other staff members. That's not okay and if that's the case it's rather shady. Again, I don't know if that's what's going on or not, but that's the only reason I would have doubts against the school.
My confusion and hurt over possibly not being accepted is in no way diminished by the fact I have arthritis and have thought about the life-long possibility of nursing for me. I still put in three years of my life, I still studied for a month and a half for the TEAS test, that hurt over realizing all of that work was for nothing did not suddenly disappear because I came to the decision that the arthritis in my back might give me a problem as a nurse.
I'm offended that someone would think that my medical issues suddenly makes it unacceptable for me to upset over possibly being rejected.
If you read my post, I said that I WOULD rather have a bachelors than an associates after working for five years. Remember that I was fully intent on getting that associates before this whole situation occurred and I never once said that an associates "wasn't good enough". It's probably the most difficult associates degree out there, for goodness sake.
I was only saying that PERSONALLY I would not be reapplying for next semester since by the time spring rolls around I could be well on my way to a higher (not better) degree.
Thank you, Hpfl2015 for bringing the meaning of my words to my attention and reminding me that I'm no longer a teenager, and thus no longer have an excuse in thinking the world revolves around me.
I will reiterate that I never sought to harm others or to imply that all of you aren't incredible people that will make incredible nurses. I will be posting the final list once I get my letter, whatever it says and wish you all luck on your next semesters, whether it be as LPN's, RN's, or PHSC students trying to improve your scores.

I thought my questions were pretty benign....I was just curious and trying to have a conversation.
I like reading this thread and have read many of the other PHSC threads being that we all have something in common and have been in the same situation.
No harm done ScarletJones. If I could share the information with you I would be more than happy to, unfortunately I cannot. I appreciate you being on this thread as we could learn a lot from you and your prior experience. We do all have something in common and this is a place for everyone ( pre-nursing, nursing students and even post nursing) What campus are you at? Any advice?
The way they did everything this semester has been very confusing and has upset a lot of people.
Yep, I received the packet from Nancy last Wednesday
I hope you get your acceptance letter, Corey.I'm curious - for those of you that did get their acceptance letters - did they email you your packet yet?
It just seems so crazy that they are doing everything so late....there's a lot to get done in that packet.
Well said!
