PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone!

I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?

Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!

Thanks!

Thankfully I work at a hospital, so I have days off during the week. I have just about everything done, only thing let is my physical and labs, which I'll be doing Thursday! I so excited about orientation!

So to recap. I did not receive an email the day everyone else did. I called Connie several times, left my info and never heard back. Spoke to Connie on the phone and was told I would receive a letter in the mail. Sent an email to Connie and was told to expect a letter in the mail. Spoke to an advisor that called west campus and was told I would expect a letter in the mail.

They told me several times to expect a letter. Letters that have mostly been denials.

But, when I get angry and a tad snotty and pretty much demand for someone to check into my status, I get a "oh yes, ms.lastname, you were offered a seat and we forgot to send you an email"

I am so incredibly fustrated right now. People let me sit there and stew for two weeks thinking I wasn't accepted. Let me sit there and wonder if everything I've been working toward was for naught and then when I was good and angry enough to call over and over again until someone picked up, they decide to check it out and let me know.

Orientation is on the third! How in the world am I supposed to have everything ready?

Sorry, had to rant and tell everyone what was going on. Hopefully no one takes offense to my opinion. This is simply that, my opinion and my frustration.

Congratulations! What an emotional roller coaster!

So you were offered a seat?! That's awesome!!!

And honestly, it will seem like a lot to do but it's not as much as you think. I promise. For you have gone through all of this and you haven't had a mental breakdown .... Girl! You've got this!! It's going to be okay!

Who said I didnt have a mental breakdown? I've spent the last hour crying and sobbing in pure anger and fustration, lol

Congrats Corey!!!

Well you are still here and you haven't been committed anywhere so that's a plus! ; )

Has anyone been able to register for the CPR class next Thursday?

Nancy is supposed to send out an email regarding more information on that. Hopefully today or tomorrow. That's all I really have left :)

Congrats, Corey!! I tried registering for the CPR class, but I guess we have to wait for an email. I just have my drug screen left to do and I'm doing that tomorrow. I believe the physical and titers have to be done by September so I'm not going to stress over that right now and focus on the stuff that is due by Monday. 😃

No harm done ScarletJones. If I could share the information with you I would be more than happy to, unfortunately I cannot. I appreciate you being on this thread as we could learn a lot from you and your prior experience. We do all have something in common and this is a place for everyone ( pre-nursing, nursing students and even post nursing) What campus are you at? Any advice?

The way they did everything this semester has been very confusing and has upset a lot of people.

Thank you for your kind words - no worries about the booklist...really, its quite alright.

I'm at West campus and am going into maternal child this semester. It has gone by sooooo fast!

My advice - keep up with your reading assignments, especially studying the power points.Funds initially has a ton of reading but it tapers down. It will take you a little time to find your own study method. For me personally - I would have the power point up and my book open at the same time (at home) and reference the book to the slide I was reading. I would also make little voice memos to listen to in the car while driving to clinicals and such -that was really helpful in helping me memorize lab values and abbreviations. Test questions can be tricky -make sure you analyze the test questions and ask your self why they put each answer to choose from....sometimes the most simplest answer is the one that is correct. Practice your skills at home when you can so you can pass them with ease at check off in the lab. When you're in clinical - always be on the up and up of whats going on and volunteer as much as possible (even if you're scared) to perform new skills. Dont be scared to ask questions!!

Oh...for clinical - they want you to bring a folder to keep your paper work in....most people in our class use these Officemate Slim Clipboard Box, Blue - Walmart.com

since they can be cleaned, hold our notes, and be used to write on....super helpful!

I'm not sure if you plan on printing your power points or not (many do) - but I bring my ipad to class with the power points already uploaded and annotate directly on the ipad within the power point which has made studying a breeze since I can access it from my ipad or iphone at any time.

That's all I can think of at this time....but I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Congratulations again to all of you and yay Corey on getting an answer...FINALLY!.
