Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

hey everyone, I agree with vintagedoll and don't think you should give your hopes up. I feel like they might pick the part time program people first because they get less applicants for those spots. I know there are a lot more people that apply for the full time program. Don't give up the hope! And in other posts people really didn't hear until may about their acceptances. Vintagedoll also makes a good point that people are still taking NLN, everything is due by may 1st! So it's reasonable that the admissions committee still isnt making final decisions by may 1st. Keep your heads up high!

Hi, im applying for ATOP , I called this morning and the lady said that the committee was reviewing my application now . I am so nervous , I dont know what to think. I take NLN on monday and I have knots in my stomach.

Hello everyone,

I wish everyone the best of luck with getting in the PBISON, I too applied for fall 2010. I went to BMCC last year and did not get into their program. I think the cut off for the year was 3.8 or something, crazy I know. I am just so nervous, I have been reading the post and I too cant stand the wait. MG told me my package is complete but I just took the NLN on 3/24 and on paper so it takes 2 weeks. I just wanted to know if PBISON looks at grades for classes other than the pre-req's. I didn't do so well when I went to college in 2001 but then my major was communications or something and my grades sucked. but I have been doing pretty well with the pre-req since I returned back to college in 2007... so nervous....what cha think?????

Hey Aleatha - I wouldn't worry too much...If I had to guess they only look at the pre-req grades

thanks for replying... thats what I was thinking... you know I took the NLN and there was alot of physics. you would think if physics was needed for entry into nursing school it would be a pre- req. Iam going crazy waiting.... but Iam just trying to stay postive:D. Its hard because I really want this so bad it hurts. There are not many schools in NY and I dont want to have to commute to NJ but I just might have to. I expected to start at BMCC fall 2009 because I had a good GPA but I missed the GPA cut off by a point or two so I went to medgar Evers to take some more pre-reqs. it already the 31st so hopefully we will hear something soon.

Was glacing around the NYS professions website, and looking at the board passing rate for NY schools, Megar Evers had the highest passing rate of any ADN program in NYC, and IIRC of BSN programs as well. One hundred percent of grads from the past two years on record passed. Not even Hunter/Bellevue scored that high.

May not make waiting any easier for you guys, but this week is a major Jewish holiday (Passover), and many people of that faith take off from work or work on shortened schedules. Since Beth Israel is a Jewish insitution it may (or may not for all I know), be more impacted than other places.

I was thinking the same thing about medgar. 100% passing but thats for about 27 people and 14 the year before that and I know they admitted way more than that amount of people at the start of the program. makes me wonder.

how was the interview??? we wanna hear all about it?

who was the interview with?

hey stinson! It went REALLY well. As soon as I walked into her (she is the manager of student services) office she said that I have a very strong application. This caught me off guard because I didn't do well in ALL my classes in undergrad (I already have another BA in Psych). It was pretty informal and she was impressed with my experiences esp at sloan kettering. She said that there shouldnt be any reason why I wouldn't be accepted! The admissions committee is meeting on Monday and she said I could email her on Tues to get an informal acceptance (or denial) but she said I am a very strong candidate. =) I am SOOO excited. She also said that she doesn't see me doing the evening program which starts in the spring. Suggested that I should try to do the Fall ATOP - which I am definitely considering now! I am going to try to rearrange my work schedule.

So much writing! lol i'm sorry - but I'm really excited! She also said that when it gets busier the admissions committee will be meeting more often.

Starlette,

That is great news ! I am glad it went well. If you don't mind me asking what was your NLN score? I have a good GPA and what I fell is a strong essay, just need to do really well on the NLN I'm scheduled to take in two weeks. Yikes ! SO nervous. Please keep us posted !

My NLN score was 140 composite and AD was 96 percentile
