Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

Specializes in Hospice.

@aspiring: I took it at PBISN, and it's not any more or less quiet than any other test-in-a-classroom setting. There's rustling, sure, as people turn pages of the test packet or work out problems on scrap paper. and the proctor makes occasional announcements about time and stuff. maybe you should look into places that do computerized NLN testing?

The room was pretty full. maybe about 50 students? (sorry i'm running on a memory from almost a year ago!)

Bring ID, and any documentation you receive when you register. that's most important. Nothing else is supposed to be allowed in the room, but people had bags, water bottles, etc under their desks. They might be strict about it.

No special accomodations that i noticed, but not sure what you mean there. You are allowed to get up and use the bathroom, but of course you lose that time.

I finished science and verbal with time to spare (they're my strongest subjects and i got a 99 in each). i didn't finish math in time though; i think i had 10 questions left at the 5 minute mark! when it got down to one minute, i just guessed on the blanks. Needless to say, math is my worst subject (and i got in the low 80s on it) so i'm sure if you're good at it you won't run into this problem.

I just finished taking the NLN entrance exam. I was able to finish every section however i am sure I missED about 50% of the vocab words and I tried my best in all the other questions. The science part-i dont know chem or physics but i tried my best. english and math are straight forward but again i feel like i did my best. so i think i did average not excellent. i am not a dummy i have a BA..so i know i can evAlUate questions and basically have experience reading and stuff. my question in all this is-FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE IN THE SCHOOL AND TOOK THE TEST, DID YOU FEEL LIKE I DO AFTER THE EXAM AND STILL PERFORM WELL? the test was rushed and no one can be perfect. just wondering if any of you currently in the school or accepted to the school ended up with a high percentile although feeling like i do. thanks..

so I got in. Thank you all for your help. I think I will be doing Atop-what is more stressful atop or evening? i work during the day full time.

Although I work I will not be able to afford tuition, I plan on using loans to cover all-will loans to cover all be available? i have a BA and wondering if student loans are offered to be even if i am doing this AD program-and not grad school also how hard is it to get the scholarships? i know there is a scholarship that pays all tuition. hmmm..tell me more and other resources please!

Congratulations on getting in! As far as the atop vs evening, I know evening meets tues, wed, thurs 530 to 1030. I think that is alot, esp 3 days a week to walk in your door around 11 pm, but that's my opinion. Alot of people I go to school with work full time and manage just fine in the atop program. Personally, I think atop is better. You won't be getting home that late (lec is until 8pm on thurs), you would really only have to take fridays off and maybe leave 3 hrs early to get to class on thurs but usually employers understand. It is totally up to you though. Why not discuss it with your husband and see what he has to bring to the table since you going back to school is going to have an effect on him as well

ok this question is important and thank you for always helping me out. I am signing up for the courses at either fingerlakes or any other but i see that i must have had a certificate of residence on fil e with them 60 days prior to start of classes :( in order to get resident tuition. Did you take any courses prior? did you have to prove residency like this? what did you pay? I am so upset! I dont want to pay double for the class.

Hi Jayzelena, I have an interview next week and I am so excited! I would like to sound more confident about which track I want to do - hate to go in there and seem wishy-washy. From a few threads I've been hearing different schedules for ATOP and evening programs than what is posted on PBI's website. Could you please tell me if Thursday is always a full day of class/clinical, as are Fridays and Saturdays? My work would be fine with me only working 4 days a week, but cutting down to 3 days may be a stretch. I guess I could find a more flexible job (I work in an office 9-5), but I sort of like the one I have now.

Thanks for your help!

I'm sorry for not answering anyone'sposts. I haven't been receiving emails about the posts or messages. :( I'm sure everyone who received an interview has gotten an acceptance package by now. ;) I'm gearing up for my second and FINAL year. Can't believe it. If you have any questions I promise I'll be checking the website regularly. I know how nervous you all must be so I'm willing to help any way I can.
