PHCC Spring 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hey guys just wondering who is applying for January. Deadlines are in a few weeks and no one had started a thread yet. I am applying for RN and LPN hoping to get in this time around.

There was a page that showed the schedule and it says "Porter Campus" at the top. I also talked to Sharon the other day and she told me anyone who lives in Land O Lakes, Lutz, Wesley Chapel was assigned to that campus. Hope that helps :)

Hi to all & congratulations to everyone who got in to the program, to me it is exciting & nervous at the same time., I just received my packet for the RN program yesterday and I agree it is confusing when it comes to the schedule at Porter

I received my packet for west campus and it was also on the top of the schedule. but my schedule says fundamentals starts tues and adult 1 starts weds. does anyone know, are we taking those classes both first semester ir is this schedule maybe for second semster students as well. It was my understanding that we only took fundamentals and clinicals first term then adult 1 after. Now im nervous there starting us with two classes first semester:cry:

did any lpns get their packet? I haven't seen mine yet and I'm getting nervous lol

The packet we received for the RN includes the schedule, books & costs for 2 years. For Jan. we will take the fundamentals only. In addition to that you can take any general courses, which usually cannot be more than 2 classes since the fundamentals and the clinical add up to 10.6 credit hours and you cannot take more than 17, so 2 general courses each 3 credit hours is the max. you can take.

What makes me nervous though is the volume of books & study material, 3 for lecture and 3 for clinical just for fundamental, I hope we can manage that....

ok that's what I thought, whew, I was like no way are we taking both classes. I did also notice the amount of books and study material :nailbiting:

I guess if I don't see a packet by Wed I'll call on Thursday. I haven't ran into anyone that is in Lpn to see if they got theirs yet.

So according to the packet, it says we have to take the flu shot, which I don't like! Also what if I don't remember what vaccinations I had, because I don't have my shots record. Does anyone knows if it would affect me to have the required shots now if I've taken them before? I'm sorry, I just get nervous when it comes to shots for me & my kids because of the side effects that they might cause

Diana you wont have any side effects except maybe soreness at the injection site. The flu shot has come along way the last couple years. Now it is a dead virus they inject you with. However at my job we tell patients that they might have flu like symptoms for 24 hours. I didnt have any the only thing I noticed was extreme fatigue until the next morning, so I recommend getting the flu shot at the end of your day.

You can get your records at the health dept. I was able to locate mine there and they were kind enough to print me a copy to pickup. I am getting my physical/titers done tomorrow through my insurance but from what I understand I will have to wait to get results and then get vaccines if needed. I was feaking out about this too, but for different reasons.

I came to the US 1.5 years ago and had no vaccination record with me, so I had to get the titer for MMR & chicken pox which were positive and I do not need those vaccines. Due to national PPD shortage (protein used for TB screening) I made an appointment at the health dept. to do blood test for that on Wednesday. Tomorrow I'm going for the drug/alcohol screening. Got my flu shot today at Walgreens, the injection site is very sore, but you have to keep moving your arm, the more you move it, the less you feel the soreness. Today I was at the office where we are supposed to drop our formsheets after completion and was asked if I confirmed my attendance for the orientation, I told them I did not get any form for that in my packet. The lady said they found out that in some packets this particular form was missing, so I had to fill one right there and give it to her.

So if any of you did not sign a form to confirm you'll be going to the orientation, go to the room 256A, 2nd floor, M building in West Campus and do that.

Hope I can turn in my package by the end of the week.

Hope the mail comes today since admissions was no help.
