Pharmacology help

Published

I'm a new nursing student and know yall may have seen this many of times but what is a good way to study for pharmacology? My teacher is really no help at all. All she do is tell us to read but how can I remember all of that information, I can't read 13 chapters back to back everyday. Someone please help!!

Make flashcards. There are Pharm flash cards somewhere here on the site that you might find of assistance. Also, when you go to clinical, look up the medications that you are utilizing right then and there. You will start to make connections that will make pharm easier to understand.

Pharm is difficult, but, do-able. I would say the biggest help for me was flashcards!

Good Luck

Personally, I can't do flash cards. In fact I hate flash cards. But I am an auditory learner, so I repeat the drugs and info into a voice recorder and then listen to it over and over. When it comes to knowing the spelling of the meds I use a multi-colored chart with class and generic and brand name.

Know how you learn, and do what works best for you. Memorize, memorize, memorize....

When I first learned pharm, I made my own flash cards. Put the brand name on one side and the generic on the other. You can also put a few drugs names on one side and the drug class on the other. Also learn side effects specific to that drug; don't get caught up with n/v, constipation as those are s.e. common to most meds. Imo, pharm is straight memorization. YOU CAN'T MEMORIZE EVERY DRUG/DRUG CLASS. :no:REMEMBER THAT! ;)
