Pharm class.

Do you have a pharm class?

We do, Im currently in it and its terribly hard. I was talking to a few friends who have gone to a bigger university adn they said"we have it integrated into all of our classes." Just wondering how many ppl actually have a Pharm class.

We have to take a Pharm class the last semester of our nursing classes (it's a 2 yr program). I wish we were allowed to do it as a prerequisite class or in the first semester b/c it would help us with some of the background understanding. However, I have found that in clinicals they are trying to drill as many of the drugs into us as possible, and in theory some teachers require that you know certain drugs for tests. I'm hoping it will at least make sense!

Our program has two Pharm classes, but the meds that can treat the different disorders we learn in class, the meds our patients are on at clinical, and any meds included in lab are all fair game!

We have a junior level, three semester hour pharmacology class in our BSN program. I like it too. The room stinks (literally), but it's one of three courses in the program I looked forward to. Maybe I should've been a pharmacist, lol. Anyway, the ADN students have a freshman level, one semester hour pharm. class focusing on math. The rest is integrated into their nursing course.

I'm in an ASN program, and I think that Pharm is a two-semester class for us. I'm in the first semester right now. It seems to stress everyone out in my program really bad, and I know of a few people who are actually failing out of it. I personally don't think it's really that bad and it stresses me out less than my Med/Surg class does. It's just a ton of memorization... I found some pre-made flash cards ("Pharm Phlash") that have been really helpful. I also type up study guides before each exam with all of the "key" drugs we're supposed to know, their indications and contraindications, side effects, etc.

I am in a BSN program and we had one semester of pharm. My med/surg professor also writes pharm questions on the test. You never really escape it. I didn't think pharm was terribly difficult, just a lot of memorization.

Had 1semester of Pharm in my BSN program. Don't try to memorize everything. I found that learning the mechanisms of action for the classes of drugs helps you to understand all the potential side effects and such. Hope that helps:)

This is exactly right. Instead of breaking down each individual drug and memorizing that for a test, you need to understand how the different CLASSES of drugs work on the body. Once you understand this, you don't really have to memorize the side effects. The classes of drugs usually have things in common too. Like beta-blockers end in olol.

I know that it can be really overwhelming at first but you can and will get through this! Good luck! Pharm was one of my favorite classes!

We had to take Pharm as a 4 week summer course! Totally killer. I counted it up and we went over 253 meds. Over half the class (of 90ish) did not pass. I made it through with a B, but I can't say I remember very much!

BTW, we didn't take Patho until after Pharm, and I found it very difficult to know what drug to use and why when I didn't understand the disease process.

I think it would be much better to combine Pharm and Patho. That way, you could study the disease condition and learn the drugs to help at the same time.

I am in a pharmacology class right now. I have heard so much about it being a tough class but ours really isn't. In fact, I rarely think of the class at all until test time and then I can spend a couple of days reading the material. That's about it. The actually class time is spent doing "peer demonstrations". We demonstrate medication administration techniques.

It seems to be more of a bare bones types of class than anything else.

That's how ours is set up. Two semesters of patho/pharm

Hi

We have 2 semesters of Pathophysiology & Pharmacology in 2nd year. I think it would be difficult to learn these two subjects separately.
