Trouble with getting a job

Published

I got my license in November and have been looking for a job ever since, I know it's an awful time to look for a job in general but this is ridiculous. Anyone else having a hard time?

What area of PA? RN or LPN? What area of nursing??

In philadelphia and the surrounding area, at this point any kind of nursing.

Not sure what you mean about any kind of nursing? Most hospitals start interviewing for new grads in Jan-March. I would call those hosptials that you sent applications in and talk to the nurse recruiters.

Good Luck

I meant any area of nursing because post asked me what area I was interested in. I have already called hospitals, are you familiar with philadelphia hospitals?

Are you a RN or LPN? What phila hospitals have you called? When did you graduate? OR are you looking in the suburbs?

Good luck

I live in Philadelphia. I graduated in May 08 in Pittsburgh, PA. Moved home the end of June 08. Have been looking for work ever since. I was told by Hahnemann to schedule for my NCLEX as you had to have a license to work there. The recruiter knew this wouldn't happen until Oct/Nov. She told me she'd then schedule an interview. Well guess what?? I took the NCLEX and passed the 1st time in Nov. I called and there are no jobs. NO ONE in Philly really has jobs. Temple is on a freeze, Tenet is on a freeze, Penn wants BSNs (I have an ADN) and there aren't many of those, Jefferson has no openings and no upcommings, CHOP is finicky..good luck with them, ppl can't get ahold of anyone, Abington and I quote "we only need experienced nurses", so on and so forth. You can try and travel out to Allentown, but things out there aren't always better for some of us, if you know what I mean. Hate to put race into it, but it plays a huge role sometimes. One hospital had me in for an interview, she told the nrs mgr it went great and scheduled a shadow date on the spot. I went to shadow and everyone was apprehensive. Only the person I followed would talk to me, and the only ppl who looked like me worked on housekeeping or transport. Sad. I know everywhere isn't like that, but as a girl who spent half her life in the suburbs of Warminster before moving to Philly, I know about it all too well.

Getting back on subject...All I can say is to keep looking, but there isn't much out there. And no, most of them won't return a phone call.

:smiletea2:

to answer the previous question I am an RN graduated from Jeff and my story is pretty much the same as the previous person who posted, it sucks right now, I sit on the computer and the phone every to look for a job, no where is hiring at all.

I just graduated (12/2008) and having the same problem. I am scheduling my NCLEX for the end of February or early March. I shelled out the bucks for a TPP - what a waste of money. Everyone wants you to have your RN now. I was going to wait until March to consider looking outside the area, but I am going to open myself to the possibility that I may be moving to get work. The way nursing is promoted by instructors and media - I expected to have several job options by now. If anyone gets a job and hears about openings, please post it on here and I will give your name so you can get the credit/bonus.

Thanks!

If anyone is willing to relocate, I was just sent an email:

about a Labor & Delivery position in Jacksonville,NC @ 1-888-999-5415 from a guy named Mike (with a recruitment company I believe). They do need someone right away and it is near a military base. I don't have my RN yet and kids in school so I can't consider it for myself. I would love L&D though!

Hello! This is my very first post!! :) I am also having a difficult time finding employment as a new grad. I graduated in December with my BSN and have a previous BS degree in Biology. I am being told by recruiters that they want experienced nurses. It's frusterating when you need experience, but can't get the experience because you don't have the experience!! Ugg! I hoping that employment prospects for new grads get better soon. As of now, I am continuing to apply to everywhere in the Delco/Philly area. Eventually, something will breakthru. If anyone knows anyone who is looking for GN's let us know! :)
