  1. I attended West Chester University's Accelerated BSN program. My class was the first to graduate from the program and we had a 100% first time pass rate on the NCLEX. Pretty impressive. We all found jobs, either before or within 3 months of graduating. The cost is lower then most of the other programs (esp. the ones in Philly!!! ie Drexel). The professors there know what they are talking about and are always on hand to help you. Class size is small, so if you need/like one-on-one attention this is very beneficial. Classes are usually evening, clinicals include some weekends. You can still have some-what of life.....as far as nursing school goes. I was able to work 32 hours/week. Which is something I needed to do (I got bills to pay, LOL!!!) and not all accelerated BSN programs allow you that opportunity. I can be hard at times, but the program is fast (17months) and it will be over before you know it!
  2. West Chester University also has a 2nd degree program that will allow you to gain your BSN in 17 months if you have a bachelors in another field. I went there and graduated Dec 2008. My class was the first cohort and we had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX, first try. I highly recommend this program. Great professors!
  3. I know it's easy to say, but don't feel bad. I felt totally clueless the first time I gave IV meds. It took me a while to adjust from doing IVs in the nursing lab vs. actually performing on a patient AND my instructor!! I graduated in Dec. and I can honestly say that I still don't feel 100% confident! It takes time. At least you have a rotation in an ICU setting where you gain a wealth of knowledge working with all types of equipment. My school did not provide an opportunity to do this. Remember, take advantage of everything you can learn while you are a student. I'm wishing I could have gained more experience working with IVs as I am now beginning to look for employment!! Try to get more patient's with IVs/IV meds. Let your instructor know that this is area that you want to strengthen and that this is a goal for yourself this semester. Best of luck you!! I know that you will get the "hang" of it :wink2:!
  4. Hello! This is my very first post!! :) I am also having a difficult time finding employment as a new grad. I graduated in December with my BSN and have a previous BS degree in Biology. I am being told by recruiters that they want experienced nurses. It's frusterating when you need experience, but can't get the experience because you don't have the experience!! Ugg! I hoping that employment prospects for new grads get better soon. As of now, I am continuing to apply to everywhere in the Delco/Philly area. Eventually, something will breakthru. If anyone knows anyone who is looking for GN's let us know! :)
