Pearson Vue Trick--trick no more

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone!

I took the NCLEX RN last Aug 23, 2014 at 8AM. It was my first take on the exam, and was understandably anxious (and scared) to start and get over with it. We arrived an hour and a half before the start time. I checked-in and was assisted by a fine, old gentleman. I got to start the exam earlier than scheduled (they allow it, as long as you are checked-in, you can immediately start). The tutorial sort of calmed my nerves but to my surprise I was trembling when I started reading the first question! It really helped a lot that you have control on your pacing, so I got comfortable as the exam went on. And so it was, my exam stopped after the 75th question. I finished the tutorial, exam and survey in two hours. OMG! Either I passed or failed miserably fast!

I have been reading about the pearson vue trick, how it works, etc. I planned to check on it an hour after the exam. I logged on to the pearson vue website and got the "good" pop-up. Oh my was I on cloud nine. Thank you Lord! Of course, I checked again after an hour or so, and still I got the good pop-up.

Now, it so happens that that day August 23, 2014, there was a scheduled website maintenance from 5:00-11:00PM CDT. True enough I couldn't access the site during those times. But the stubborn in me still couldn't resist checking the site after the said schedule. So I logged in again, but this time, pearson vue had a new "interface", the old one had the register option on the left. The new website had a "START THE REGISTRATION PROCESS" button right in the middle of the page.

I did try to register again, and do the pearson vue trick again. I answered the questions, etc...and then when I pressed the Next button, praying I would still get the "good" pop-up (to reaffirm my "unofficial" passing result), alas, it went straight to the credit card page!!! I felt shivers in my spine, OMG! "Does this mean I failed?", I thought. I was in denial. I thought, it probably was because they updated the website, after all, I still got the "good" pop-up before the scheduled maintenance. I guess I was just convincing myself at that point. I tried again and again and still went straight to the cc page, I was devastated. It didn't help that my result wasn't available that whole weekend. It was agonizing! Did I pass, did I fail? Waaaaaahhhhh!!

But then thank God for quick results, it was available this morning! I was ambivalent to check because I didn't know how would I react. But of course, I'm not the type who prolongs the agony. I went ahead and paid $7.95 and then the result was available on the next page... I PASSED!!! Praise the Lord!

After I finally got the "unofficial" passing result. I tried again to register for the exam...and still it lead to the cc page, even if I already passed!

Hence, based on my experience, the Pearson Vue trick cannot tell anymore whether you pass or fail after AUGUST 23, 2014. Even if you passed or failed, it will still let you start a registration process and lead you to the cc page. Thus, no more so-called "Pearson Vue Trick". I don't know if this is temporary or permanent, but what I know is that it changed when they had that website maintenance. Its sad that we can't rely anymore on this "trick" to reduce our anxiety and get a "quicker" "unofficial" result.

This just means that future takers of the NCLEX RN would have to rely on the "quick results" option (48 hours after the exam) or wait for their official results in the mail to know for sure what their result is.

Its official, the Pearson Vue Trick must not work anymore. I found out this morning that I passed the NCLEX even though the PVT took me to the credit card page which indicated I would fail! So don't worry yourself sick!!! If you had a lot of upper level questions such as SATA and priority questions, and it shuts off at 75, there's a good chance you passed! Good Luck!

Congratulations and thank you xchel, rn and williamkelly92 and everyone for posting your experience. I took the exam Sept 4th at 12:15pm and finished around 1:45pm. I had 75 questions (about 26 SATA, 35+ mult choice prioritizing, 4 ordering and 1 pic). I felt relieved afterwards and thought I passed and was so happy.. and then I tried the trick and got the cc page. I was devastated!!! I spent hours online checking my score even though my boyfriend did a great job trying to distract me but i couldn't stop checking. And then last night at 10pm I found this post. I still have hope that I passed.

It's been "official" for about 10 days, as evidenced by around 200 posts on the subject in the last week and a half. Guess you missed them.

Additionally, SATA is not "an upper level question". SATA is a question format that can be above the passing standard or below it. A person can receive "a lot" of SATA questions and fail, even while getting them CORRECT, because they aren't above the passing standard.

Wish that myth would get put to bed already!

You don't have to be a **** about it. I spent all day on the 3rd thinking I failed and searching online to see if the Pearson vue trick still worked and I didn't find anything until this post. It took a lot of my anxiety away and I just hoped to help other people with the same problem. I wasn't saying I'm the official voice that the Pearson vue trick didn't work, its a figure of speech.

Charming. And I'm not confused, I understand YOU are not the 'official' anything.

My point was to tell people that continuing to pass on faulty information, misinformation, such as whether SATA questions "mean" anything, number of questions, type of questions, etc, is causing MORE anxiety to people. They get worked up over things that don't matter, and your post probably added to that instead of relieving it.

No one is being a ------ about anything! Many of us have been trying to spread the word far and wide that the PVT in its old form was not reliable, and in its new form is not reliable, and potentially costly to attempt.

The problem with the trick is that it is a trick, and using it has caused more anxiety for more people than simply waiting one more day for official early access results.

There are not just 200 posts dealing with the issue, but at least 100 threads with dozens of posts contained in each, and the post count is well over 200. Instead of users searching within those threads and posts, or using key word searches, they start their own threads, further diluting the information. Everyone who is trying to get good information to students regarding PVT must go in and repeat the same info over and over again.

The same goes for facts about the NCLEX and SATA questions, number of questions completed, and a host of other 'myths' that students believe are predictors for pass or fail. There is even a thread detailing the facts, but people are just bypassing it and posting questions that are already answered any way. And when they do, it bumps down the helpful information, and keeps the myths alive.

No one is being a _______ to you, they are trying to inform you, and everyone else, because we actually believe you should have the correct information.

Have a good day!

I really hope the trick is no more. I had an instructor tell me about it months ago. I took my NCLEX yesterday the 4th. I thought I was doing okay, but I still felt like I was getting questions wrong. I had a lot of priority patient questions, priority action, and alternate style questions. I don't know the number it shut off at. I wasn't paying any attention to the number of questions. I left feeling horrible. I thought for sure I failed. I remembered my instructors advice, so I did the trick. When I got the cc page, I was heartbroken. Still waiting for quick results to go through.

In its previous form, you knew of people whom the trick steered incorrectly? Like personally knew them? Because I just went to school with 200 people and not a single one of them whom took it before August 23rd, had an inaccurate indicator from the PVT. That may seem like a small sample size, but the more than 50k people who attest to it, make it a pretty trustworthy indicator of future results. Could it be completely correlational, I guess anything can be, but by no means are the results statistically insignificant. So to act like such information increases anxiety, is as asinine and ignorant as, well many other things I read on the internet.

But mostly your unprovoked negative and condescending tone, just speaks of someone whom bitterly has a vested interest in QuickResults, or is just a pretty angry, insecure, and petty person overall.

Here's to hoping you make money off the quick results. Cheers little buddy.

First of all....:roflmao:

Second, take a step back. We don't personally insult people here.

Third, if anyone here worked for PV, the admins would know it.

And finally, YES, I do know someone who received the CC pop up under the old PVT who actually passed...ME. Would you like a copy of both of my licenses? And there is also polling data that supports that the PVT is not 100% and never was.

So before you attack and insult and accuse people you don't know, perhaps you should educate yourself a little more by actually reading the forums here?

Good luck, sweetheart. :cheeky:

Even if that were the case, and it did not work in your case under the old format (mind you I do not think it works at all under the new format so that is neither here nor there), your personal crusade against it is obviously misguided.

and using it has caused more anxiety

how has it caused more anxiety exactly? Its allowed people to have an immediate, and very accurate idea of what their grade is. Considering it worked for the great majority, and brought most of them either early elation, or worst case, early realization of an unfortunate situation, the occasional heartache it may of caused you (and a scant few others), is well worth spreading the overall effectiveness of the trick.

Consequently, it is also quite worth it to find out if the new website format, allows itself to somehow also indicate prospective nurses of their passing or failure. Something you have by no means figured out yet, as unless you can show me otherwise, I have not read of any false positives nor negatives. Once you compile that information, you go right ahead and show us all how inaccurate it really is, in the meantime try not to be bothered when people post here, or in some other thread about how they want to know if there is a trick that will allow them to feel peace of mind a couple of days prior to the quick results.

By no means is such a desire, such a search for reassurance, something that increases anxiety. So thank you for your crusade against the pvt, im sure your intentions were noble darling, but fear not, it does more good than harm, so save your valiant and time-consuming efforts for a cause more worthy of your virtuous intentions ;)

Staff comment - please don't be angry at each other that this isn't working anymore. It never was a "trick" but rather a computer glitch.

Best wishes to everyone taking their NCLEX exam.

Hello everyone

I took the nclex today at 8am, my test shut off at 85 questions, I left feeling like I did ok and didn't bomb it......this is my second time first time I had all 205, came home and did the Pearson vue trick as of July 2014 & didn't get the good pop up. About a week later I recieved my report in the mail stating I failed. Today I tried the Pearson vue trick after reading about the changes to the website and put in my credit card info and didn't push submit in fear of being charged $200, so I found a visa gift card with nothing on it and recieved a pop up on the step2 page with red writing " our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam, another registration cannot be made at this time." I'm hoping this is still working just that you have to really put in your credit card info this time..... I'll keep you guys posted on my results! :(
