PBSC/PBCC August 2010

Hi!

The PBSC/PBCC thread is getting a tad crowded so I figure now is as good a time as any to get the prospective students thread going.

Good luck to everyone!

So did you did you do a titer for hepatitis or get the three shots? Where are you doing CPR?

I had gotten the shots a few years ago. I'm glad I kept my shot record. I had a little bit of trouble finding a location for the CPR near me, so I just went ahead and signed up at this place called Professional Medical Education, in Lake Worth http://www.pmeinc.net/. It's $70 with the book, $50 is you have the book. The lady who does the training at my local hospital is gone ALL summer, and it seemed like a hassle finding one for free so I just shelled out the money.

There's a CPR course at pbsc for $30 but it lasts

6 hours

. I'm not sure if it satisfies the requirement. I've gotta call the school to find out. Thanks for the info!

Make sure it is AHA approved. The Red cross gives CPR courses but it doesn't meet the requirements.

Thanks for the reminder woahmelly!!!

I've taken both, (regular CPR) several times each, and frankly I saw no difference. I always thought that having 2 different providers, with some employers or schools using a specific one, was a real scam. I remember at my last job, all of the sudden the "bosses" decided one was better than the other and we all had to get recertified. 2 years later we switched back. Go figure.....

I have only given CPR three times, and my success rate was not that good. First time, the family whipped out a DNR while I was in the middle of it. The second, the guy's brains were coming out his nose (not much chance there). And the third, I brought the guy back until the medics showed up and killed him. (nothing against medics) I'm not sure what the normal success rate is. Probably not that high. Higher now with more AED's around. If I remember right, AED's are part of regular CPR training now. Has anyone taken the healthcare provider version and can shed some light on the differences.

The only difference I noticed between the two is that the HC Provider version utilized ambu(sp?) bags and two person CPR.

did anyone order their uniforms yet? how much did it end up costing you? I'm gonna order mine after or before taking the HESI on the 14th. And I'm taking PBSC's CPR course on the 15th

Two sets of scrubs (top and bottom) will run you about $100. The lab coat is 32.

Yup. I ordered 2 sets, coat, and 2 nametags and I think it was around $146. A friend told me to buy a spare nametag, just in case.

I just finished up my medical. I almost fell out when the ARNP told me that my titers came back positive! It took me a few seconds to recall a little micro.
