The PBSC/PBCC thread is getting a tad crowded so I figure now is as good a time as any to get the prospective students thread going.

Anyone price the books yet?

I'm starting 2nd semester this fall. I don't remember the price of my books, but I do remember the weight. 36 pounds!

Let me advise you to get your books online at Amazon or similar. I've always done this with my classes and can get a brand new book for around the same price as used at the bookstore, or even less. The used ones online can be super cheap.

Also, if they want you to get the text book bundle, don't. I didn't even crack open my fundamentals handbook and the study guide had errors all over the place. I wish I hadn't purchased them and I will not be purchasing the equivalent for 2nd semester. Those books weren't even needed. For pharmacology with Marshall you will need the pharm study guide. It too has errors, but she requires homework.

I believe the nutrition book is under "required" books. It's not. I never even touched it.

Also, don't go by the book lists on the course syllabi. It says it was updated this month, but I don't believe it. Go by what the bookstore says to get.

I'm actually taking pharm with Marshall now. *headdesk*. Do the books have access codes or something? I was planning on getting them online anyway but I've heard that sometimes those don't.

The nutrition book is listed as "any". I was just planning on using the one from the pre-req.

What stethoscope is everyone getting? A friend of mine was going to give me his littman cadio but can't find it. So I'm back to shopping.....I'm thinking a raspberry littmann classic II but are we allowed color?

Doesn't specify a color. I'd think that the uglier it is the less likely it is to "walk off". :lol2:I also had a stethoscope donated to me. It's a Littman but I have no idea what model it is. If you can help it don't get the stethoscope in a local store. Go online to allhearts.com or something similar.

Congratulations to everyone who got into the program! The points were so high this time! For those who did not get in...dont give up! Many in the program now got in on their second try. Points tend to be very high in Fall, and this time I think they were the highest ever. :bow: Definately reapply for Spring!

Semester one is tough. For those who will take Pharm simultaneously make lots of friends and form some study groups, it really helps. Im heading into Sem 2 and did Pharm along with Sem 1. It can be done! Stay focused and determined!

Hey all, just finally activated my account on here.

If anyone else is here starting in August, I'm lookin forward to meetin yall in the next couple weeks. Some of us startin in the Fall are in the Pharmacology class w/ Professor Marshall in this 6-week summer semester.

The course is difficult, but it's ridiculously interesting, so I can't wait to finally start clinicals. I'm takin the online lecture w/ Marshall since I've been working as a CNA for a year, so I hope that helps...can't fit in everything into my schedule at FAU as well if I don't take it online -- hopefully it's not too hard.

Online really isn't any harder than in class lecture. If you are well disciplined than you will do fine. Good Luck. :)

I agree with Jdfflats. For those who take lecture online, you must log in everyday Monday thru Friday as part of your participation grade. Also, every unit online will have a short assignment. Don't miss even one! If you do that, at the end of the semester you get the full participation grade. It can make the difference!:stdnrsrck:

thanks for the info happyjj777. i'm going to be taking the online lecture and was starting to get a little nervous.

woahmelly - i don't work in health care now but will probably challenge during second or third semester and work a little before taking the NCLEX
