PBCC-palm beach comm. college

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.

I read on line that this school works on a point system

I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program

(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO

WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.

Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.

Thanks

1st semester in Belle Glade is going good.... You definitely learn alot in a short period of time!! Overall love the students and teachers, hope everyone elses semester is going good!!

Specializes in Med/Surg.

YAY! Can't wait to see everyone on NSA Day! Make sure to bring cash to buy tickets for the baskets in the drawing. Half of the money raised goes towards your class's fund for planning their respective pinning ceremony. The other half goes to NSA for activities like going to the FNSA and NSNA conventions. My class knows me well cause I'm always hustling them for money and now I'm on the committee to plan our pinning.

If you are bringing notes with you to study, please be discreet cause they don't like it (I like to be efficient so I will anyway lol).

How are your exams thus far? And where are the future students at in their applications?

Hey guys, I have been reading this thread for a while now, but this is my first posting. I am currently taking the prereqs for the nursing program at PBCC. I am curious if anyone is in the part-time Lake Worth program and if so...how many points they had when they got admitted. I am loaded up with classes right now and plan to load up again in the summer to get as many points as possible before the October application cut-off. But I don't want to overdo it unless I have to because I am 38 years old, switching careers, have a family and work full time...so I have enough on my plate already and don't want my grade point average doesn't suffer.

Anyone know what the average points for getting into the part-time night program is?

I'm in full time program, so I can't comment on the part time course load. But, my advise is get EVERYTHING out of the way before you start the program (including Pharmacology). Trying to take additional classes when in the program is extremely taxing. Good Luck.:)

Thanks for the advice. That is definitely my plan. But I want to figure out how much to take before the application. I will still have the Fall semester to take Pharmacology and anything else that I can get out of the way, but it will be too late to count for points.

I'm also curious to know how many points the last batch of students accepted into the eve/weekend program had. And how do you like it?

The points were around 27.2 for evening weekend. So expect that to go up in January. HTH

Thanks for the info Kim. That's allot. I think I will have somewhere around 26-27. I hope that's enough. I really don't want to wait another year...I'm 38, so the clock is ticking. Unfortunately, the only points I will be missing are 2 for only having an Associates degree and the 3 from Microbiology and lab. But I am already going to have a full schedule in the summer and won't really have time to take Micro...if I could I would, but I am already going to be taking 5 classes over Summer which is allot for a Summer term. I am taking 5 now.

Cassie, are you taking pre-reqs now? What are you taking? What are your plans for the Summer term?

What classes are you taking summer term. You may want to take micro and lab and leave out a one point class. I expect it to be around 27.5 for evening weekend as it has gone up EVERY year. Good luck, nursing school is a blast.

artistdiaz,

I am taking pre-req's, online - right now I have A&P 1 and Nutrition. For summer semester I'll be taking A&P 2 and Micro. I'm thinking of taking a third class in... something... to raise my GPA. What is your summer schedule? Five classes will certainly keep you busy!

Every day I'm going back and forth between the PT and FT programs. The thought of quitting my job to go FT sends me in a panic...... as does the idea of choosing the PT program instead and not getting in. Ahhhhh. The stress.

If I do well on the NLN, I'll have a 28.5...... Maybe I should apply to the FT...... Ahh, I don't know. :grn:

Kim, I thought about taking Micro instead..but if I replace one easy (psychology or sociology) with two harder ones...it may just be enough to send me over the edge. As it is, I am taking AP2, AP2lab, Human Growth & Development, Psychology and Sociology...all this Summer. I COULD sub Micro for Psych and Sociology...and that would give me one point...but don't know if I can handle that much. I'll have to re-evaluate and see what I can figure out. Thanks for the heads up!!

Cassie, you are lucky to only need a couple more classes. I decided this at the beginning of this semester, so I scrambled to take a bunch of classes. I am taking AP1 lecture and lab, Chemistry and Nutrition. I am taking AP1 and Nutrition online and the lab on campus on Saturdays and Chemistry on Monday nights. I may have to put it into overdrive to try to knock out a bunch in the Summer and pray I get in. I am 38, so waiting another year would completely suck!! My only option is PBCC and my only option there, is the part time night program because I work full time. I would love nothing more than to quit and just concentrate on school...but I am married and we have two kids, so there is no way we can do it on just my wife's salary.

I went back and forth also. I had the points to get into part time or full time. I choose full time last minute. I will tell you if you have to work full time, full times classes maybe to much. Every one in my clinical group was working full time at the start of the semester. One drop out, and the 3 others quit there job. Make sure you take pharm before nursing semester 1. Pharm and semester 1 is killing people. I heard today over 30 people droped from our program and it is not even withdrawl date.

If you can do part time do it.....but know it is still alot of work. 6 out of 32 have already dropped. I study with the part time group and they are also overwhelmed with semester 1 theory. You need to be prepared to study everyday for 2-5 hours if you want to do well.

Good luck.

Kim
