Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.
I read on line that this school works on a point system
I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program
(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO
WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.
Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.
Thanks
Kim, I thought about taking Micro instead..but if I replace one easy (psychology or sociology) with two harder ones...it may just be enough to send me over the edge. As it is, I am taking AP2, AP2lab, Human Growth & Development, Psychology and Sociology...all this Summer. I COULD sub Micro for Psych and Sociology...and that would give me one point...but don't know if I can handle that much. I'll have to re-evaluate and see what I can figure out. Thanks for the heads up!!Cassie, you are lucky to only need a couple more classes. I decided this at the beginning of this semester, so I scrambled to take a bunch of classes. I am taking AP1 lecture and lab, Chemistry and Nutrition. I am taking AP1 and Nutrition online and the lab on campus on Saturdays and Chemistry on Monday nights. I may have to put it into overdrive to try to knock out a bunch in the Summer and pray I get in. I am 38, so waiting another year would completely suck!! My only option is PBCC and my only option there, is the part time night program because I work full time. I would love nothing more than to quit and just concentrate on school...but I am married and we have two kids, so there is no way we can do it on just my wife's salary.
Personally I did not find Micro and lab to be difficult at all. I took micro online and lab at lake worth. The 3 points will give you the cushion you need not to feel stressed about getting a spot. Did you get a 10 on your NLN? If not retake the NLN in September and try and get a 10. Really I think it is going to be crazy for evening weekend next year as soooooooooooooo many people are talking about that program.

See, now stories like yours make me want to suck up the debt and go FT. I am fortunate enough to have the option; I'm just being a big baby. :vlin:
Cassie, my evil plan is working...HA HA!! The more people I convince to do the day program, the more chance I have of getting into the night part time!!! Ha ha!!!! Just kidding...I am just stressing. I guess it, is what it is...and if I don't get in, I will just have to suck it up and deal with it.
Hi everyone.
Just took the March 20th pre-NLN examination today. Feeling pretty good about it. I believe I got away with no less than a 'B', pretty good chance it might be an 'A'.
With an A ill have about 29.33 points, with a B 27.33. Hopefully enough to make it into the Fall 2010 class! (If anyone knows what the previous entrance score cutoffs were, would be great!)
For those that took the exam, how did you feel about it? Thanks for sharing. :)

I was there, too! It was about what I expected - not very difficult, but so general that I just had to guess the answer for a couple questions. Almost ran out of time on the math section. Ugh, math.
Hoping for a high score....... I won't be applying until the Spring, so I'll take the exam again if the score isn't high enough. With my luck, I'll be one point off from an A!
hey all, about to get some pre req's out of the way this summer and then going to apply to pbcc in october. was wondering if anybody had any input on the pbcc part time evening program vs. the regular full time program done online/distance learning. specifically, what is the schedule like for each program, how much time do you have to dedicate to studying, etc. i have to work and have a job that takes about 30 hours a week and is somewhat flexible. all info is appreciated.
thanks
Fourth semester student here with finals today @ 1300
The fulltime online program is really dependent on if you're self-motivated. It depends on the online instructor if you'll get case studies or discussions to prepare for a test, but you only show up for mandatory days as the instructors designate, skills lab meetings, and test dates. For exact information on when evening/weekend program meets, I suggest you look at the syllabus at www.pbcc.edu/nursing.xml and click on "Nursing Syllabi & Handbook" on the left navigation column. They contain the current meeting time this school year for the evening & weekend program. As a fulltime student during the first semester, I didn't come in contact with them until NSA Day. I believe during the first semester, you would have lecture with skills lab one day a week each & the summer term would be clinical. For your second semester, I believe this repeats. I'm not completely sure, but check the nursing handbook and syllabus to confirm unless an E/W student can personally let you know on here.
Studying time would depend on your study habits, style, and determination. Our instructors suggest that for each credit a class has, you should be spending 3 hours studying. Some of my classmates actually do this where other state they have more effective study measures that have proven very successful for them. We have students in the live classes that work 30-40 hrs a week that do fine, meaning they don't squeak by. I've personally been from two part time jobs to none and back to one part-time job during my time at Palm Beach State. Some are more comfortable with online with their work schedules/personal lives. I started live during my first year, switched to online during third semester, and finishing up the last semester live. You can switch semesters from online to live since they are both fulltime, however you are allowed only ONE SWITCH from fulltime to parttime or vice versa.
Hope everyone is getting the info they need and if not feel free to ask! Make sure to vent as necessary lol

Thanks for the pointers, Kim. I plan on Pharm in the fall while awaiting the Spring decision. I can see myself making a last minute decision, too. It may come down to a Magic 8 ball!
