Just curious what state everyone is in and what they expect (hope) to be getting paid for their first job as an RN??

Just Curious..... :monkeydance:

I'm in Charleston, WV. The local medical center (consists of 4 hospitals in the area) is putting me through nursing school on a scholarship, but I'm under contract to work for them for 3 years once I graduate. Their starting pay right now is $18.00 per hour, but since I'm saving countless dollars in tuition, books, supplies, etc... I can't complain.

One of the local hospital systems pays first year nurses $36 an hour now. By the time I finish with school in 2009, it will be $46 an hour.

Not too shabby.

Specializes in LTC/Skilled Care/Rehab.

I heard that new nurses make around $50K a year in Chicago. I don't think that is too bad since I know a lot of people who graduated from college and make a lot less than that.

I'd be happy if I got more then 12.50$ an hour, which is what I get in NZL as a care giver. It'd be around... (tries to work out exchange rate in head) probably $7.50 an hour in America.

Although, NZL nurses managed to score a pay rise a while back for new grads, not sure what it is, maybe 39,000 approx?

Specializes in ER.

Multiply what you'd make hourly by 2080. That's how many hours you work in a year (if you work 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year).

So if you make $24/hr x 2080 = $49,920 a year.

Here is a real simple wage calculator at

http://www.oesc.state.ok.us/ES/wagecalc.htm

Just plug in either an hourly, weekly, monthly, or yearly rate, and it will automatically convert it to the other rates.

Is that Kaiser? If you'd rather not be specific, I understand. ;) I was just curious what Sutter and some of the other local hospital systems are paying as I'm in Sac as well. :)
