Jacksonville university RN to BSN online
Hi I just wanted to slip this comment in if your talking about UT arlington I recently saw a blog talking about the fact that they coordinate with hospitals and other large organizations and get the majority of students that way because the job helps with payment or completely pays depending on where you work. I heard its a little harder to get in or have a counselor bother with unless you doing this if your a independant you dont get personal attn. i will qualify that I dont know if this is true but they werent helpful with me. I have known and herd great things about JU and WGU is fast and inexpensive. Also chamberlain has good personal attention. I noticed JU students I have known go one to MSN because they liked it so much and it went by quick.also before applying you can punch in random searches on the internet for satisfaction or problems with a school and although it may be one digruntled person it gives you info to ask about or if you see great reviews that is comforting you can also search CONSUMER REPORTS FOR TOP ONLINE COLLEGES OR UNIVERSITIES FOR NURSING IT GIVES YOU A WHOLE SPREDSHEET OF COST SATISFACTION PASS RATE ETC ETC COMPARISON ALSO TRY REPORTS ON TOP ONLINE UNIVERSITIES FOR NURSING. GOOD LUCK!!!

Has anyone done the WGU online RN to BSN program?
If you are a diploma RN and going to get BSN is a smart move. The health and nursing industry is requiring RNs to have a BSN esp in the hospital insurance or case management setting. I got my Diploma RN after a year of hard core Med Surg nursing in the hospital I went on several interviews till a insurance managed care company hiring RNs would take me. The first 6 mths were hard learning computer programs and the medicare guidelines etc but it is a wonderful job going from hospital to hospital you work on a laptop and have your day to yourself to get your job done. I took off for about a year to do some personal stuff and then after that everyone hiring wanted a BSN and or you certification in Case Management which costs a lot to get. So do it now get the BSN done and after that you will have so many more options. You can get MSN for NPs or education and administration. Also having a BSN helps with getting these Case Management telephonic office or in home jobs. They are great jobs educating people so they stay out of the hospital or for you to schedule doctor appt or tests etc even schedule home health etc. hope this was helpful to all with the new healthcare bill we will be using more case manager telephonically so if youd like a job like that with average pay at 68k go for it.

Overwhelmed @ finding an online BSN!
I advise anyone just coming out of a nursing program and wanting to go on to a BSN, MSN, etc to get some work in first. all my instructors told me get a good year of med surg in first ugg did not want to do that, wanted to go into a specialty first. How luck would have it a med surg job on days was what I had to take due to the single mommy issues. I would recommend it to everyone. I know so much about all areas of nursing after working a very tough and busy med surg floor full of every possible thing you can imagine and confidence in all your skills. Of course no reason you can't do the school and work in one, but get the experience. These nurses coming out working straight into nursing homes and clinicals in nursing homes. OMG they really are not prepared clinically and have not alot of confidence in making choices and management decisions. I am not saying all are in this situatuation, but I have seen many. If you are certificate or LVN get out get in a good clinical job even if it's scary and just do it. You will be so glad you did. Work on your BSN online while you work. Get the BSN there will be no room for certificate RNs very soon which is sad but true.

Overwhelmed @ finding an online BSN!
I think it is near to impossible to get done in 6 mths. However, you probably will have to take max class load. She probably met all prereqs so she just did the last nursing courses to get thru it.

Excelsior...Any end in sight?
Don't you dare give up you are rockin and rollin and working on top of everything you go girl. When I took the prerqs that seemed the longest but school flew by. This program sounds great. You WILL GET THRU so quit this gripin and the pay yes it's much better and yes same clinical however as a RN it's all more leadership oriented. Get your mind set around that. DO NOT thing like a LVN when you take that test think like a RN a leader of the team a manager. The rationales are hard but you can do it. You go get em.!!!!:dancgrp:

Number ONE on waitlist. So frustrating
Just do your thing you will be suprised. Alsoooo if you can you should try to apply other places. Also please please if you are trying for the LVN just go ahead and get the additional prerqs for the RN it's soooo worth it don't waist the time to LVN and then a yr experiene and then go back get your RN and try the diploma and degree programs you can always get the BSN online but you do def need good clinical skills. Good luck don't give up just don't you will be happy in the long run. I went back at 38yrs old. I love it and always will. :flwrhrts:

returning to Nursing
OMG is it hard to get a job after being out. Even if you do some travel or pool do it. The refresher courses are good but getting back to clinical is definitely a challenge if you have been out they want recent 1 yr experience. You may have to take something your not that happy with and move from there after you are back in the swing. Good luck guys.

Qs! bubbles, IVs etc
Ok you nursing students God love ya. Please, please I don't ever want to hear I went ahead and did it anyway because I already started. Is that a good rationale to kill your patient. Bubbles bubbles bubbles. Of course you should always make sure pushing a med that its compatible with the fluid. You better know that if your giving it.Well if you start to push it's not too late to pull back and push some saline and disconnect the port further down and let it drain. When in doubt ask. There are a hundred little secrets nurses use. AND no a couple little bubbles won't hurt but why risk it with a patient already with multiple diagnosis. smile keep going and head up.

Women's Health NP
Yes, totally for the Womens NP these NP's work in hospitals and in conjunction with ob/gyns for exams and follow up. Most of the hospitals have these NPs in the GYN wards doing rounds and in clinics for birth control etc. I am thinking this would be a great NP to get. Considering the online programs. Anyone have recommendations on any specifically good online programs. Smiles

information about crna, reliable information please
Ok lots of stuff on here. I think CRNA are awesome but they have probably been doing ICU or something close then decided to go back to school yea to them. Docs are becoming threatened by these nurses because they DEFIN know their stuff and could probably toss a few docs on their knowledge base. Now you can definitely make good money but a RN in management such as DON or CNO can rate the same pay by knowing to go get her MSN in hosp admin. The secret is to love taking care of people if you don't do not become a nurse. If you have always loved that even as a young person taking care of others than go for it and believe in yourself but I will honestly say with college in biological sciences at first that was nothing compared to the stress time money and energy I devoted to being a nurse and it was worth every bit because I love it. Ask yourself do you love it and what place and who do you want to care for. The sky is the limit. If you want to do what the docs do you can work with them and be a nurse practitioner if you like the clinic.

Any CNMs in Austin, TX here?
Hi guys I am currently on the quest for a advanced degree myself and in the research stages I live in San Antonio Tx and am familiar with Austin as well. I have to say I use to do case management so I was in a multitude of hospitals and facilities. I just don't hear much about home births. There is several birthing centers. I think the practice of midwifes may be being linked up with the docs for the other proceedural things like exams and calls home visits maybe but it seems most of home stuff is happening in the rural areas. Not big hospitals. However It seems that NP in family practice are totally branching off getting together and even having their own offices and getting physician re-imbursement. Course the AMA is having a field day with that one. good luck

New grad on third job
I am glad this is working but remember that experience on the floor is what is a learning curve you can't get anywhere. I am in CM myself and it can be extremely grueling. You usually go to 3 to 7 facilities a day on the phone absolutely constantly which is good but just realize the expectations and if you work for a physicians group sometimes they make you into their fire put out person. Also medicare guidelines and all the insurance is the main part of your job so if thats what you want awesome just realize no matter where you go it will be hard and you need to get the experience under your belt and on your resume before you can tackle some hard hitting supervisory jobs. But those are def out there and to be a DON might be up your ally or even CNO you go
