I have my RN and I am looking to get my BSN but I am completely overwhelmed at how to pick an online BSN program... Here's the things I am looking for: ~Reasonable tuition (I have found programs as high as $17,000! Too rich for my blood!) ~No clinicals (I have been a RN for a couple years and don't need to prove myself) ~100% online ~Accredited by: CCNE or NLNAC Anyone have any advice? School recommendations? I really appreciate it

I have been wanting to try another form of nursing like labor and delivery and I have ALWAYS wanted to work in the OR...how do you get a position in either of those units?? Seems like you have to donate a kidney to get anywhere! All job postings say, "must have 2+ yrs experience." How do you get experience if nobody will take a chance and train you?

What exactly do you not like about ICU? I worked on a trauma unit and loved the actual job but really hated nights and how tired I felt all the time...took a toll on my personal life. It sounds like you are totally going over and beyond to educate yourself to be the best you can be, which is very admirable. I would feel very lucky to have you as my nurse. That being said, maybe you are overdoing it on hours spent there. Perhaps stay in ICU PRN and work on a surgical unit or the ER full time?? :)

Thanks for the input! Do u have any advice on getting a job (or at the very least, getting an interview) at either children's or university? University has turned me down several times and I don't understand why.

I suggest finding out the names of Clinical Managers at some places u are looking to work and giving them a call. Tell them u are relocating and are willing to commit to a year or two. Also, I suggest, whether u intend to or not, say u are looking into programs to get your BSN. I have an associates and I am having a hard time finding a job, WITH experience, in Denver. Have u thought about Colorado Springs? Good place to live and better prospects for new grads. Good luck, hope u find something!

What can you tell me, good or bad, about North Suburban Medical Center??

Hi, I have been looking and applying for RN jobs in Denver and keep getting rejected. I have 1.5 years experience in a trauma step down and surgical unit, TNCC certified, been both a preceptor and charge nurse. I have my RN license and an associate degree. Do Denver hospitals only hire BSNs? What hospitals should I be trying for? I am at a loss and need a new job soon as my husband just got a new job in the thorton area. Thanks!

Please note: I haven't completely lost my empathy. I actually really, really care for people. You will see what I am feeling when you become a nurse. Actually, I hope you don't! I hope you really love nursing. I want you to know how much I appreciate that you try to be a good patient. It's the people that come though the hospital demanding things, call you 80 times when you have bent over backwards for them, people who don't say "thank you", people that talk over you, micro-manage everything you do... it's very hard to be nice all the time and shrug these people off all the time. I love being a nurse and I am going to try not to take people's personality conflicts to heart as much as I have been. I wish you the best!

It been a while since I read what I originally wrote and I just now read through all your posts. I appreciate all of them! I have a lot to think about! I also have a lot to be thankful for :) I am lucky to have a job, lucky to have a hospital job right out of nursing school, lucky to have gained so much experience, lucky to have such great co-workers and mentors, lucky to be exposed to a world where health is a luxury... lucky to be alive! I am going to try to focus on the positive from now on.

I am a new(ish) grad...graduated from nursing school in 2009. I have been working nights as a RN on a surgical floor for a year now. I am feeling so down lately. I am feeling like i don't want to be a nurse anymore... All the demands at work, the workload, nasty patients, lack of sleep because of night shift, never seeing my husband/family/friends, being constantly exhausted, wanting to cry all the time...it all has me dreading each day I have to go back to work again. I am given the "difficult" patients because they seem to think I can handle it better than others...should be a compliment but it drains me! I am starting to really hate people...most people are rude, demanding, and critical. I find that almost every second at work I am screaming inside. The only bonus is that I work with amazing people and they are the only ones that get me through... What do I do? Do I stick it out a while longer? Do I find a new job? Will anyone even hire me with only 1 year of experience? Are these normal feelings? Do experienced nurses feel this way too? Should I just suck it up? Do you think I just need a vacation, lol? help! I am at a loss and would really appreciate your comments. :)
