Pass NCLEX recently without Kaplan?

Published

I cannot afford to take Kaplan or any other expensive program so I'm going to design my own study plan. Please advise as to what books/study plan allowed you to pass. I ask for people who have recently passed because I heard the difficulty level was raised this year. So far I plan to use Kaplan NCLEX-RN 2010-2011 Edition: Strategies, Practice, and Review (Kaplan Nclex-Rn Exam), Saunders Q&A and Comprehesive Review 4th Ed.

I would like to add something else in with this. Any suggestions?

Good luck to us!!!

shannahan, i graduated i may but didnt pass exit hesi so once i passed in sept. then i just focused hard on nclex. so basically from may-october i was studying.

I passed in June after 75 questions and didn't use Kaplan. I owe it all to LaCharity and the new Davis book!!! Good luck to all of you taking the exam soon!!!!

I passed the NCLEX 3 weeks ago with 75 questions, and I did not do Kaplan/any program. To study I used the Lacharaty, Saunders comprehensive, and NCLEX 4000. These resources were a huge help!! Especially Lacharity. Also, I think I did around 5000 questions in the few weeks before the test to get comfortable with answering them. Best of luck to you!!!

I used Prentice Hall, Kaplan, and Hesi. I went to two Hurst reviews, but if I would have just used the three that I mentioned, I would have been fine. I took my test in September and passed! Thank the Lord!

i mainly used prentice hall, kaplan, and hesi. the nclex was so similar to all three. i attended two hurst reviews, but if i would have just used the three that i mentioned, i would've been fine. i took the test in september and passed, thank the lord.

Like so many others, I walked out of the NCLEX exam not knowing whether I had passed or failed. I was provided a Kaplan NCLEX study thing by my new employer, but got so busy I didn't have time to study it before my test date rolled around. After the minimum number of testing questions and an hour after the start, my test was over and I passed. So I think a good school, good study habits and hard work while you are in school, a bit of common sense, and a bit of luck, will get you through just fine. Good Luck!

I am scheduled to take NCLEX next month. I have taken the Hurst review, and am now studying that along with Reviews and Rationales by Prentice Hall. I am going to get Lacharity after reading these reviews, but I do have one question: What is pvt with the good pop up?

Hi,

Congratulations on making it through nursing school! I graduated in May 2010 and I didn't use Kaplan either for the same reason. Our school used a system called ATI and I used lots of the books and online exams provided. If your school also provided a test prep program for NCLEX, I would suggest you try using those materials. I also bought an NCLEX-RN test prep book from Mosby and a small flip through booklet called NCLEX-RN Notes. They were both helpful. Many of my text books came with disks or online codes that included many NCLEX questions and study materials such as videos, pictures, charts, etc. I used those as well when needed. With that said, don't neglect your textbooks at this point if you still have them. They can be wonderful resources. I am excited for you! I hope that this was helpful and that you pass on the first try :D

I recently passed the NCLEX-RN on my first go approximately six months after finishing NS. (I had a minor in human development to complete).

I studied only with the Kaplan book from 2008-2009. People gave me flash cards and links and lots of "stuff" but it only confused me so I didn't use any of it but the K review book.

It is important to note that if you finished NS with a good grade then you already know the CONTENT. What you need is practice in the higher level INTEGRATION of the basic data. NCLEX assumes that you know basic data and tests you on your ability to synthesize and deduce. The Kaplan review book helps to cultivate this critical skill.

I do not recommend that you waste your money on skills review or "tasks." Whatever review you choose should focus on improving your ability to rephrase the question, eliminate wrong answers, and porifice ambiguity.

Good luck! :redpinkhe

Do a search on "Pearson-Vue trick" in the google window at the top of this screen. You will find many posts on Allnurses.com and elsewhere.

Have you gotten a date yet? I am in my Maternal Child semester (and struggling bombed first test and did well on the second ugh). I am passing at this time (but barely).

I was looking to see what others were telling you to buy to study. I do have the Saunders 4thE and loving it also planning to buy the 5thE.

I am up on anything to help.

Good Luck!
