It was a phone call offer and I had previously sent the recruiter references so she told me to expect an email sometime within the next few weeks with next steps.

When I interviewed for ED they said it would be a week or two because of how many applicants. Don't worry!!

If anyone accepted the SICU offer please hit me up so we can connect!! [email protected]

Does anyone know what happens if we accept an offer but we end up changing our mind? I’m just waiting for ED but I got an offer for another position ?

When I interviewed they said this week they will start sending out offers.

what's the point of asking for references after they offer you a job? are we at risk of losing our position?....... good to know before I say no to everyone else

An offer can always be rescinded. That is true no matter where you work and no matter what job you have, nursing or otherwise. A job offer is not a contract. If you get a bad reference, post something stupid on social media or LinkedIn or get a DUI etc or even if the company's hiring plans or financial situation change.....your offer can definitely be revoked and they don't even have to tell you why. It doesn't happen often, but it happens. That's kind of just life. It isn't worth stressing over unless you are engaging in inadvisable behaviors or you hear the company you are headed to is in financial trouble.

You just talk to them on the phone, thank them for the opportunity, tell them you got another offer that is a better fit for your goals and that you appreciate so much being considered. Just like they can always change their mind, so can you.

Sounds scary but its not. Trust me. They won't blink.

I'm in this predicament right now ? Will I be burning the bridge to the first hospital? Like will they blacklist me to never hire me at that hospital in the future? I've heard that it's like this from my professors at school. Thank you so much for your post

Not if you do it in a professional manner. If you ghost? Yeah, sure, you might be. But if you simply decline the position before orientation? Nah. Wait until after you started and it will possibly be a different story.

Now, the second you know you don't want a position you need to tell them. The earlier you do that, the sooner they can offer it to someone else. If you wait until right before you start, that won't go over too well. It will be too late to bring in anyone else and yeah, that can potentially make you look bad. But in general? No, you won't be blacklisted. You don't even have to tell them you found a better fit. Just thank them for the opportunity and express that after careful consideration you are withdrawing your application.
