Paramedic to RN exam options only in GA

Published

Hey all.

33 yrs old, been in EMS for a decade. Wife and I had a kid 7 months ago and that has pushed me to go ahead and make the jump. Currently I work in a pretty busy ER as a medic on 3rd shift after being on the truck for most of my career. Also a member of the Air National Guard. Needless to say, finding time to study is hard.

So far passed:

Microbiology

Life Span Psych

Health Differences

Health Safety

Any questions or comments are welcome.

Specializes in EMT since 92, Paramedic since 97, RN and PHRN 2021.
Passed Foundations with a total of 13 hrs of sleep for the week. Now for a nap and to figure out which exam is next.

Nice job!!!!!!!! I've got Lifespan 2 scheduled for Monday morning. Next 3 days will be non stop studying!!!!!!

Let me know what you take next and when.

Hope all is well Bill!

And now I am on to Reproductive Health. Gonna try and knock this one out with a week's study time. I really want to get through this stuff before military TDY's hit in late Summer and Fall.

Any idea what region you may have to go for your TDY?

Wisconsin for one. The others I don't know yet. Some out of country for sure.

Hopefully you can knock all of these out before you have to go. Im sure you can do it. If i can help let me know!

Oh man, you know that you are my go to for this stuff since I am a few exams behind you! I appreciate all the support man.

Ended up not realizing that Repro was a different Phase. Opted for taking Transitions this morning. Knocked it out of the park. Gonna take a little breather and then on to Repro and the LS1,2,3. Onward and upward.

Hey guys, I'm in about the same boat as you. I have Repo and the LS 1-3 left. I'm trying to get all 4 done before August so I can get into the FCCA that starts around Aug 22nd. Keep up the strong work!

Awesome. I am debating on making the push for the Aug 22 FCCA but would like to rest for a few. On the fence currently about it. I know the sooner I get done with everything the sooner I can get in line for the CPNE waiting list.

I was looking on the excelsior websites community boards, under CPNE, and a ton of people are complaining because they are putting their applications in, paying the fee, and not being notified they have a date until almost a 7-9 months later, and then the test date might not be for another 6 months after that.

One person put there application in in 2014 and didn't get a test date until 2016. I know they are working on it and actively trying to get more test sites, but that time span seems a little ridiculous.

Yes, but somehow there are others who are testing in less than five months after application — and this is recently I am talking about. It all depends on the student's flexibility. If you select only one site, your wait time will be longer. People who call for cancellations get them, too. It's funny, but I've noticed in the Facebook groups that some people who complain the loudest about the wait later admit that they turned down a cancellation date or two because they felt it was too close. So I'm like, wait, you could have already gone TWICE and you're still complaining? Then I have no sympathy. I waited five months to receive my date, and seven months total until I tested. All I can say is use the time wisely so you don't have to wait again!

I became CPNE-eligible in November, received and accepted a date for January, gave it up due to a death in the family, received, accepted, and passed my second date in February. People seldom paint a full self-portrait...the final product looks so much better if they omit the personal flaws.;) Kinda reminds me of those who failed the CPNE when asked, "what did you do to fail?" Answer, "nothing, the CE didn't like me." Ok.:sarcastic:

And I might add, Pixie.RN and I were under two separate eras with EC: her's was the Nursing Concept era if I remember correctly; and I was under the exam-only rendition of the Nursing Theory era. Our CPNE experiences are separated by two years.

Some things truly are operator error when it comes down to complaints. Ignore it and keep it moving...
