Hey all.
33 yrs old, been in EMS for a decade. Wife and I had a kid 7 months ago and that has pushed me to go ahead and make the jump. Currently I work in a pretty busy ER as a medic on 3rd shift after being on the truck for most of my career. Also a member of the Air National Guard. Needless to say, finding time to study is hard.
So far passed:
Microbiology
Life Span Psych
Health Differences
Health Safety
Any questions or comments are welcome.
So FCCA is done and passed! Now to submit my CPNE packet and join folks for the dreaded wait. I'm gonna put in for all the test sites and hope for the best.
You bring the popcorn and chair's and I'll bring the beer. Its gonna be a long wait buddy!!!!!
BTW great job on the FCCA'S. Kind of nervewracking, aren't they?!?!?!
Seriously. The tests are easy but the wait for the final week is unnerving since you breezed through the pre-tests so long before that you start doubting yourself on the finals. Haha.
Over and done with now. I am not looking forward to this wait. Reminded the wife about the wait time and she got irked all over again. Gonna try to use the interim to study up for the CPNE and hopefully get on as a flight medic. We shall see.
So did the Sheri Taylor workshop this weekend. Can't recommend it enough. They genuinely seem to care about your outcome and I left feeling a lot more confident about this next step. Now to study my butt off and see about getting a cancellation.
Since I got my email from Excelsior today telling me my anticipated CPNE date (without taking an earlier cancellation) will be sometime between July-September of this year, I may fly down and take Sheri's workshop again the beginning of the month I will be scheduled to test. It will probably have been 6-7 months since I took her workshop the first time so I will need a refresher anyways. Better to pay a little and get a refresher than fail and pay almost 3 grand(with travel and lodging).
So it has been a long while since I have updated. After some issues with potential deployment status, I became CPNE eligible in November of 2017. One year later and I am still awaiting a test date. I have reviewed some but to be quite frank, I have not killed myself trying to study simply because I know how my brain works and I wouldn't retain as much as I should starting that early. In the mean time I ended up taking a full-time job as a critical care flight paramedic job as well as a part-time instructor at a college in their EMS program.
Apparently they are getting close to eligibility date for giving test dates so now I will be revamping and returning to my studying using the methods shown at Sheri Taylor's workshop. Once I receive a test date, average 3-5 months out, I will probably enroll in Sheri's online workshop to allow for more care plan practice and what not. So I am now back to checking my EC mail box every day, hoping for the message of my impending doom, I mean test date. If I can pass on the first time I will be attempting sit for the NCLEX in Tennessee as opposed to Georgia due to the GA BON's ridiculous history of clinical hour requirements. If that happens then an imminent move from Ft. Benning to North GA/Tenn will happen and the new adventure starts.
Anyhow, that is a quick update. I may be more active here and detail my studying process here in the hopes that someone might glean something from it. Wish me luck.
So I got my first date offer and it's less than a month away. I thought the dates would be a little further out than that. Unfortunately it isn't the split option either.
Any how, with the holiday here there isn't much chance of me making it.
Next date I'm taking even if it's not the split, though I am going to ask them if it's possible to do the split.
It's crunch time!
Edited to add my eligibility: Nov 2017
