Paramedic to RN exam options only in GA

Published

Hey all.

33 yrs old, been in EMS for a decade. Wife and I had a kid 7 months ago and that has pushed me to go ahead and make the jump. Currently I work in a pretty busy ER as a medic on 3rd shift after being on the truck for most of my career. Also a member of the Air National Guard. Needless to say, finding time to study is hard.

So far passed:

Microbiology

Life Span Psych

Health Differences

Health Safety

Any questions or comments are welcome.

Have you looked into the preceptorship requirements for paramedics in Georgia? I figure you have, you seem thorough. :)

I am also in Georgia, but I moved here courtesy of the Army and worked as an ER RN under my Virginia license in an Army hospital. I was able to endorse my Virginia license into Georgia a couple of years ago when I decided to work PRN in other civilian ERs.

I did EC's program as a paramedic as well, and I was an ER tech while in school with EC. It was great experience because my RN coworkers loved to share knowledge.

Which exam is next, and when?

Yeah, I've seen the requirements for clinicals. Not the easiest of states but it's doable. It beats having to jump through the hoops that the other two brick & mortar bridge programs have.

And that's awesome. Benning is right next door to me.

Currently I am eyeballing Transition for a tentative test date in two weeks. Depends on my scheduling. I know that testing is gonna be a bit harder over later summer due to military duties that are already on the books.

Thanks for reading.

Air national guard and ems for er? That seem pretty exhilarating! Are you an adrenaline junkie? What are the top reasons why you're making the jump from those two career fields to nursing?

Are you interested in continuing in the ER after you've completed nursing?

I am an adrenaline junkie but my main reason for making the jump from EMS is money and less wear and tear on the body. We just had a kid and working 60-90 hrs a week for little pay no longer holds any interest.

I plan on staying in the ER and my do part time flight of possible.

Thanks for reading!

Yes, I always shake my head at how much people like medics, cnas and other career field I.e. Social work are paid so low for the vital work they do in society and with all that stress too!

Do you mind me asking what work you do in the national guard? Excuse my ignorance, I'm going to assume it has something to do with helping people while on a plane in emergency situations?

How do you like prerequisites for nursing?

I'm in SatCom in the Guard, though I would like to try for a commission spot once I get my RN and have enough time put in.

I already have have a bachelors so I only needed and the lifespan psych and micro for excelsior bridge, and micro only because my last micro is too old. It wasn't that bad.

Great, good luck in your future endeavors.

Thanks!

Decided to schedule Foundations for June 9th. Time to get to studying.

It is possible! As for the 200 hours of preceptorship, I wish! I will have to work 1000 hours either federally or in an adjacent state to earn reciprocity in Washington state. But what the heck, just another hoop and I tried brick and mortar, I couldn't make it work with my schedule at all.

I am curious just how many hours of preceptorship will be required. The wife and I have been tossing back the idea of moving to North Carolina at some point. They have zero additional requirements for EC grads, so there is that possibility. For now, it's focusing on knocking these exams out and conquering the CPNE.

Passed Foundations with a total of 13 hrs of sleep for the week. Now for a nap and to figure out which exam is next.
