Options after failing CRNE 3 times

Published

I just wrote the crne for the 3rd time this Oct and I was just wondering what options do i have with my BScN if I'm not successful in passing the exam the 3rd time? What else can I do? I know I can write the NCLEX in the states, and that I can take the CPNRE exam in Canada. Any other options? Also, I've heard that some people had a 4th attempt at the exam. What kind of reason would i need in order to get a 4th attempt? Please let me know, any information would be helpful.

Why don't you wait and see if you passed?

Why would you be eligible to write the Registered Psychiatric Nurses exam if you failed CRNE????

I think she's meaning the CPNRE... not the psych nurse exam.

So why do these degree holders feel they are entitled to write the CPRNE? They are educated to be RNs not LPNs. The CRNE is available only for those who have completed the education.

I'm tired of hearing that in Ontario, CPNRE is being offered as a consolation prize.

The exam content is very similar. If you can't pass the CRNE, it's unlikely you'll pass the CPRNE. Sorry, but I worked my butt off in school. It really bothers me that people who are unsuccessful with either exam expect us to feel sorry for them. Nurses are licensed to protect the public.

Hopefully, you passed, OP. Otherwise, you could consider a career teaching ESL or overseas. Anything related to health care, and they will want to know why you don't have a license.

I don't think she feels entitled, that's just an option for her. She would be eligible to take the CPRNE according to what her school stated.

Just as previous posters have stated that three attempts is a fair standard that has been set by the CNA, the current standard is that an individual who has achieved a BScN and failed three times is allowed to attempt the RPN exam. I can understand why some would be irritated but such is life. Let's move on!

PPAA- I wouldn't get ahead of yourself just yet. You don't know if you have passed or failed. But I have a friend who just completed a bachelor of arts and is about to go to school to become an Occupational Therapist, it has very similar pay to an RN.. It is approximately a full year apparently. This may be a good option, you can still be in the health care field without being a nurse. I wish you all the best!

Doesn't happen in Alberta. Here's a link to who can write CPNRE:

No where does it mention that Canadian educated degree holders that have failed CRNE may write it. Ontario is doing no one a favour in permitting this.

A better idea would be to analyze your study habits and test taking strategies before even attempting another exam. You have 6 weeks to wait. Hopefully it's good news.

If you guys are that upset about degree holders being able to write the CRPNE, you should write to the CNO about it.

You can bet that if the option is THERE, I'd take it. Anyone who successfully completes any school of nursing I'm sure has worked their butt off in school.
