Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Does anyone know when we should start getting responses??

From looking a past forums, some schools start sending out first/second week of feb! I remember reading that last year York had acceptances out earlier. Every school is different though, some send them out later some and some earlier! Best of luck ?

Honestly I'm finding in this course with AU (it's the second one I've taken with them) my tutor is not particularly helpful ? . It took two weeks for her to answer my question. I had originally asked it via email, then when a week went by I followed up, she then told me I needed to ask the question "through FST SSC", which I then did, and finally got a response to THAT a week later. I always emailed my tutor in the previous course so I had no idea that I needed to go through this other forum to ask questions. So something to be aware of! My previous tutor also gave us a bunch of review sheets and advice. I feel like each one is different and sometimes you get better ones.

Thanks for this! Yeah, I've read about the FST SSC. There's so many things to read plus the course proper! Hope I get a helpful tutor! I'll hope to spend the day doing BIOL stuff tomorrow.

Hi everyone!

I am having some trouble figuring out just how Western calculates GPA, LOL! Is it the last 10 courses you have taken until this year, or the last 10 courses of undergrad?

Hi! So I talked to Western admissions and they said they look at the 10 most recent courses starting from fall 2020 and then counting back. If you are enrolled in Winter 2021 and your GPA isn't competitive enough they'll look at this semester as well!

I am gonna come across so dumb cuz I constantly ask questions and in regards to this so my apologies! So western looks at last 10 courses right? Not last 10 credits? Cuz half a credit can be one course?
Sorry my GPA is really low  and I already graduated from ryerson, I was thinking of going back for a year, take 10 courses and apply next year but the credit part confuses me so much even though another user explained it to me so kindly but I still am confused??

I emailed them a few months ago and it's last 10 credits (so your past 20 courses) since Western's classes are worth 0.5 credits each!

Don't worry, I know every school is different so it can definitely be confusing! At Western, a regular year for us equals 5.0 credits/full course equivalents. This can be from various combinations of full year courses or semester courses. For us, 1.0 credit is equal to a full year course and a half-year course is 0.5.

So you need 10.0 credits to apply to CTF nursing and that would be a typical 2-year period if you have a full course load. Courses are different from credits in this respect because at Western, you can take 10 full year courses (10.0), 20 half year courses (also 10.0) or any combination of them to get to 10.0 credits! If you have any more questions, I'm happy to try and help!!

Thank you so much. You’re so helpful. If I am applying from ryerson, they will look at my last 2 years then right?

I've been super on edge lately because of this! I know UofT won't be sending acceptances until like April-June along with some other schools, not sure if this helps you at all. I agree though try to check OUAC less, because thats one thing that has been driving me crazy LOL I want to do that as well!
