Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2020

Updated:   Published

Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?

I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:

1. Queen's

2. McMaster

3. York

4. Humber-UNB

Happy to answer any questions you guys may have about U of T nursing!

Is it that good? I mean is U of T really worth all the hype and worry?

Yes and no? It really depends on the person. The clinical placements have been great. I have been learning so much and I really don't think you can get the same experience anywhere else... but I also think most of the learning occurs after you start working as a RN, so at the end of the day, it doesnt really matter where you go for nursing school?

thank you! I'm just super nervous, and with this whole pandemic it made me more hopeless. But I am trying to look at the positive side of things.

That's exactly how I feel right now. Losing hope by the day and because of this pandemic, there's so much uncertainty and it just does not sit well with exams coming up. Hopefully things will get better soon, I think the best we can do right now is stay positive since it's not in our control.

Hi everyone,

I know we're all super anxious during this time, but I hope you're staying healthy ?

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can accept an offer and still get another offer I.e if I accept Nipissing, will I still be able to get accepted to and respond to U of T? My top choice is U of T but I'm worried I won't get in at all or won't get in before my Nipissing offer expires.

Are the clinical placements at U of T better than other schools? I know they get dibs on all the dt hospitals. What about other toronto schools?

Hey future nurses,

CONGRATS to everyone that have received their acceptance from their choices of schools. Just wondering has anyone heard from York or know when will the next round of acceptance will go out?

My file still say's " No decision yet- Currently under consideration". Its been like that for about 4 weeks now, its driving me crazy, LOL! I just hope I get accepted.

Not sure about other schools, sorry. We have the chance to do our placements at major hospitals like UHN, Sick kids, North York general, sunnybrook, etc. The units we were assigned to are all pretty great too. For ex, for our med surg placements, some of my peers were assigned to the cardio unit at Toronto General (which as you may know, is ranked as one of the best hospitals in the world). I was placed at St. Michael’s, one of the best trauma hospitals in the country. Got to see a lot and learned a lot. I didn't see other nursing school students on my unit though. I did see Humber, Seneca and Ryerson nursing students when I did maternity at north York general. But I think they were placed on geriatric floors. I am also not sure every nursing school has mandatory peds, mental health and maternity rotations like we do.

Hi everyone/ warriors!

I also applied to secondary nursing school entries this year. I usually don't like to go on forum, but I really hope this can encourage you today.

This has been a weird and confusing season. A lot of us are already stressing about whether or not we get the offer(s), and you might be struggling with tremendous amount of anxiety and fear. But I really hope you know that, we are IN this together - and I really mean it!

I knew I want to be a nurse after I took a gap year to figure out my passion. I've studied the U of T admission + application for the past 5 years. My undergraduate career hasn't been easy because of multiple tragedies that have happened when I was a student at U of T. Took me a while (6 years!) to completed my degree. Last year when I finally graduated from U of T, I got the rejection letter from U of T nursing. I was stuck in grief and sadness for 2 months, felt like a break up. I felt like I was a huge failure, and you might be feeling this too, I don't want to fail. But I want to encourage you today, you are not a failure ❤️ you are not define by your degree, social status, or whether or not you get in to nursing school this year, or next year. You are wonderfully and beautifully made. You are so loved. And I love you for who you are (even though we don't know each other at all; I still love you!).

I am beyond excited for each and every applicants for your future. We are all created to become hospital warriors together.

Forum can sometimes be very anxiety driven. But I want to encourage everyone, let's make the best of it for this waiting process.

Remember, we are meant to be here for each other. Let's spread some love and hope to each other's lives.

Much love!

@summertime thanks for your kind words ❤️ hope you get in this time ? what did you do differently this time if you don’t mind me asking?
