Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

I'm so happy for you! Does it say when you're supposed to finish the physiology course by/send them the final grade? I'm still working on my pre-req too!

Thanks so much - good luck!!! It says that final transcripts should be sent in by July 15th, but I'm sure you can email them asking about that if you need to submit it after?

For those who have gotten accepted to UofT, did your application status change at any point leading up to know? Was it ever "application under review"?

Mine still says "application received".

Ffs I obviously meant "now"

That's awesome!

If you don't mind me asking, what is it in particular that drives you to nursing, and are you thinking of doing bedside nursing, administration, research or becoming an NP? I was also curious what field you MSc was in. I'm currently finishing mine in a molecular biology field ?

Personally, I like how nurses spend more time on average with each patient than doctors do, and care for their emotional well-being on top of any imminent health concern. The care is more person-centred and there is a bigger emphasis on preventative medicine and community health. However, I also don't have the grades to pursue medicine, or the mental stamina to get through medical school even if I were accepted. Otherwise, I might have chosen med school since family medicine and psychiatry both really appeal to me.

totally agree! i also like how much time you have with patients, and the focus is treating the person, rather than the disease. I also like the flexibility of the degree- i did my masters in global health, and i'd love to be able to work abroad. it's possible to do that with medicine, but it takes a *lot more time - for my goals, that amount of school and money isn't worth it to me! I am considering being an NP eventually though ?

Congratulations to everyone that got an acceptance today!! And to those who haven't yet, don't worry!!! If you feel in your heart that this is the field for you, the universe will make a way for you! I'm in the same boat, keep your head up ? Sending positive vibes to you all ❤️

love this positive energy, wishing the best to you too ??

Good luck everybody! Acceptances are probably being sent out every day of this week. Take a deep breath! I was so stressed this morning, but honestly, it will come when it comes, there is nothing we can do about it :( so don't worry too much!

Thank you ❤️ you are so kind. I think everyone needs to remember that as much as you may desire to go to a certain school, wherever you will fit in most and wherever your energy is most aligned with is where you will end up. So don't beat yourself up if you don't get into your dream school or the most prestigious program. You will end up where you belong and that's all that matters. Have faith in your energy and have faith in the universe as it works for you. I promise you will be happy wherever you go.

Has anyone spoken to Humber admissions recently, and did they tell you what GPA the waitlist is starting on?

Got my acceptance to UofT! Choosing between Western and UofT for now is going to be tough. Sending all of my prayers to those still waiting!?
