Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2018

World Canada CA Programs

Published

I'm applying to the second entry nursing program in February 2018 for Fall 2018 admission. I'm applying to York, Humber, Trent, Nipissing and potentially Western. I'll be applying with a BA in psych. This is probably super premature, but I wanted some reassurance from fellow applicants. I also wanted to know if anyone, past or previous applicants, know the weighting of Additional Information forms and how they're considered during the application process? I was diagnosed with ADHD during my second year of university, after being misdiagnosed two previous times, and it's certainly had an impact on my grades. My GPA is going to be something like 6.7 on a 9.0 scale. And this really has me worried. Has anyone else had any experiences with Add. Forms?

Good luck to all!

Does anyone know the final day to complete the CASPer for the Mac Accelerated Program?

CASPer website gives dates up to Feb 22nd. I've tried to get in contact with the admissions office, but have had difficulty

Thank You!

If you go to the Casper website, you can find test dates, payment info and tips/an FAQ. You can take the Casper test this Sunday (Feb 11) at noon and 3 pm and on Feb 22 at 5pm and 8 pm (all est time zones) for Mac.

Does anyone know how Humber calculates GPA (do they use an average GPA conversion of all grades together, or do they use the UofT method where take all grades and individually convert them into GPA before averaging)? Also, how do they weigh high school prerequisite grades and university grades?

For McMaster, you can take the CASPER on Feb 22nd, I go to McMaster so you can trust me on that. For Humber, they use the 4.3 GPA scale. They do not use any GPA converter, its all done by hand. I am pretty sure the most correct way to do it is take individual averages of the courses and convert to 4.3. The Humber and McMaster GPA scale only benefit people who get consistent As and A+s. If you didn't get too many As and A+s then your average will likely remain the same as you calculated when using the 4.0 scale. 3.52 is an 82%.

Hello everyone! I also received a conditional offer of admission from the Humber second entry nursing program, my cGPA/ last 2 years GPA is 3.7 . I was a bit confused with the conflicted information provided by humber and UNB. The program calendar for Humber shows that classes run in the summer (http://registrar.humberc.on.ca/ride2011/doc/admission/shs/SecondEntryBrochure.pdf). However the UNB website shows that classes only run in the Fall and Winter terms (400 Bad Request). Does anyone know which one is correct?

The sequence that Humber uses is what we use. I asked a current Humber accelerated nursing student the same thing and she said: "After the prep semester (Sept-Dec), the real program begins in January. The program consists of 6 semesters in total: Jan-Apr, May- July, Sept-Dec, Jan-Apr, May-July, then your consolidation (clinical only) for the last 4 months (Sept-Dec). You have a 2-week break in December and April after the final exams and a month off in August."

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much!! This really helps a lot, I have been e-mailing humber college about a few questions I had but I haven't received any responses. Thanks!! :D :D

Did my CASPer test this past weekend- I think it went well! Some scenarios I was pretty stumped but think it went as well as it could have. Now everything is submitted and its just time to wait! Scary times. Good luck everyone :)

Because there are multiple CASPer dates, does that mean schools that require it will not start sending out admissions until all tests are submitted? I know some people wrote their CASPer yesterday, but there are also people, including myself, that wrote it back in January, and some even before that in 2017.

Queen's PSE is due February 15th, does anyone know if that means it should be submitted February 14th by 12am or if it means February 15th 12am?

Also is submitting the essay not exactly in essay form? When I went to submit it had questions that needed to be answered and the space was given so you can't write too much. I just want to make sure that this is the same as the supplementary essay. Thanks

Hi all, I had an issue with my transcripts being sent on time since there was a library fine that I wasn't aware of.

I had OUAC set up to send my transcripts immediately though, does anyone know if the other universities can see that?

Specifically U of T and McMaster since the deadline was Feb 1, and I believe they received my transcripts around Feb 6.

I also applied to Western, but their deadline is in March so I'm not concerned about that.

Some schools (if not all) have two different GPA's that they look at, your last two years and your complete GPA including all your grades. Does anyone know what would happen if I'm in my second year and in the process of finishing up courses that would be counted in my last two years GPA?? Do they just wait until they get my final grades?

Argh how frustrating! Unfortunately I believe they would mark your application as being late. You could try emailing the schools but I think they are quite strict on these deadlines. It means they will consider the completed 'on time' applications first, then look at the late ones.
