Its great. I really love getting placements in so many different areas even ones I didn't think I would be interested in. It gives you a more well rounded approach to nursing and your likes/dislikes. I can definitely understand why the program is ranked the top in Canada!

I'm not sure if they prefer Ontario applicants but theres lots of people in the program who were from different provinces and even the US so I don't think it puts you at any disadvantage ? I worked in hospitals since high school and also worked in research at a hospital which I think helped my application as well. But theres people who got in from such different backgrounds so there isn't necessarily a specific mold they prefer!

I used to read this forum all the time when I applied to nursing last year! I applied to UofT and Nipissing and got in to both. I accepted UofT :) its a great program. I saw some people commenting saying people only get in to UofT with like a 3.9 average haha. That is not true. Theres a lot to be said about having a good solid background behind you for UofT's admission process- its not just about your grades. I got in with under a 3.5 GPA (I did have a lot of relevant experience though) but don't be discouraged if you're reading this forum thinking everyones grades are higher than yours haha. There is hope!! Best of luck

Does anyone know UofT's admissions stats? Like how many applicants there are each year? Curious :)

Haha I'm so conflicted honestly. I didn't really think I would get in to UofT so I was all excited about Nipissing (which I still am - I think its a great program) but now I am all kinds of confused. I have heard from previous UofT students you learn a lot of unnecessary theory and have a ton of readings to do that have nothing to do with your courses. I appreciate that Nipissing is more self-directed and we only learn what is important to learn. However I definitely think my mind has a bias to the fact that UofT is the top program etc. but I'm trying to remember that doesn't mean its necessarily the best program for me. I like the way you put it "am I crazy to choose Nipissing" over other bigger name schools... I dont think so!! Honestly at the end of the day I think I am going to choose Nipissing because I think the program format is better for me but I think its going to take a bit of 'mourning' the idea of me going to UofT because it was originally my top choice before I learnt so much more about SPP. But its totally a hard call!!! I'm almost not sure who to turn to to chat about it because I feel everyone is biased haha.

@stari3 UofT looks at GPA for last 10 full credits so thats what I calculated. I'm not really sure exactly but I believe mine was around 3.3 so quite on the lower side of UofT admissions. However I do have a ton of relevant experience so I know that helped but based on my grades I was seriously doubting whether I would get in. I work at SickKids in clinical research, have done years of volunteering in healthcare (at Holland Bloorview and Sickkids in child life) and my reference is a nurse practitioner at Sickkids. My acceptance goes to show that UofT truly does accept people with lower GPA's (to UofT standards) if you have really good experience which is awesome!!

Ah I just got in to UofT!! I am honestly a bit shocked- I didn't think my grades were high enough!! Thrilled but also have to make a choice now between Uoft and Nipissing!!!

@futurenurse612 do you have any idea how they select who gets placed where? Like who would have a higher chance of getting Sickkids or TPB? I assume UHN has the most spots so I'm more curious about the other two!! Anxious to find out haha

There actually are simulations in SPP! They may be different than UofT's but they have them. A past student told me they bring in actors and actresses to act as patients and this is one of the assessments for grades. I had not heard about this portion of the program until I spoke to someone who did it. Thought I'd let you know :) to be honest I also highly doubt UofT has about the same amount of clinical hours as SPP which is a total of over 1000 hours!

@connor67 @nurse2be9 I also had to decide between two schools and chose Nipissing. Obviously you have to make your own pros and cons list etc but for me I decided I didn't really want to learn more unnecessary theory and be required to read 15 articles for one lecture (got this info from a previous UofT student). I feel I did enough of that in my first degree lol. Most people I spoke to who are now RN's who also did an accelerated program, said they learned the most and got the most value from their clinical placements. For me personally, I know that more clinical hands on hours would be better for me vs being in a classroom learning theory I will never actually use on the floor. Some things to think about :) I totally get being freaked out about learning on our own but people do it.. I've spoke to a few people who are RN's at hospitals now and they survived SPP so I hope I will too haha

Can anyone confirm whether or not we get any time off in the summer for the program? For some reason I thought we got August off but I spoke to past students who said they didn't get any time off in summer. Wondering if anyone heard for this year, as I know the program is always evolving based on feedback!

Does anyone know- if we accept Nipissing or any other offer, would we still be notified on OUAC if we were accepted anywhere else? Or does accepting an offer make it an automatic decline to other program choices?
