Online Science Courses

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi all,

I thought that maybe it would be good to have a sticky for online science courses.

I am currently looking for an online/distance learning-- 4-- credit microbiology course. Of course it has to have a lab.

I know that both ccconline and Rio Salado offer these courses. Anyone have experience with either one of these in regards to microbiology, i.e. testing, level of difficulty, user friendly technology. I know from experience with Rio that the exams are proctored but how does ccconline deliver their exams?

If you have a link or resources to other colleges offering sciences--please post them here.

Hi - thanks for this thread. I am looking into A&P I online because the only section available here is at an inconvienent time. However the online courses I have found are only 3 credits, and I need 4. Does anyone know of a 4 credit online A&P I course? Thanks!

Hi! Right now I am overseas with my husband for 2 1/2 more years. I want to get my associates degree in nursing. I found a website www.deaconess.edu that will let me do it online, except all the science classes are on campus. I have been reading of all the colleges that will offer the classes on line. I am thinking about going to Iwoa community, Colorado comunity, or Edukan. But can I just enroll to take the science courses that I need and then leave? This is my first time enrolling to any college. Also I didn't do to good in High School. Can I just jump right in to Chemistry and A&P without having any pior BIO courses? Any info will help me at this point!! Thanks!!

I don't know about Iowa or Colorado CC, but Edukan will let you enroll for science classes only then leave. They have an open enrollment policy (accept you for admissions on the spot) and you only need to submit transcripts if a class you're taking has prerequisites. Some of the science classes have prereqs but Biology and A&P don't have any. I will be doing my science requirements through them and that's all. They make it really easy. The cost is $115 per unit.

Speaking of Deaconness, you may want to double check their accreditation (sp?)...I read on another thread somewhere (not sure which one though) that the online program is having some problems and is currently being reviewed to see if they can keep their approval.

Good luck!

A&P 1 and A&P2 are both listed as 4 hours at edukan.

If you didn't do well in HS sciences or if it's been a long time, I would recommend Principles of Chem before taking Chem 1. It doesn't look like EduKan requires it, but my college requires College Algebra before chemistry.

Actually, Edukan does require the Fundamentals of Chem class before you can take Chem 1. Algebra is recommended but I don't think it's required. There is a link to the syllabus for most of the classes and full pre-req info can be found on those (some of the general descriptions don't have all the info).

Thanks! I have been doing my research on all the colleges. I read too that the DN school might get rid of the on-line degree program.. so I was thinking of going through CCD (community college of Denver). They are a home school for Colorado Community College (you have to be enrolled with a home school in order to take online classes through them). They have all the classes that I would need, and they also have nursing classes online that I can take if DN falls through.. this will at least get me half way there! And they also offer study guides online for the ACCUPLACER test... which will be good for me!! I think it will be a great college to get started on. Plus they have a lot of oppurtunities for scholarships. I don't want to go through a lot of different Colleges because I want to apply for finical aid and I think that you can only apply once... I am not so sure on that. That is my next job to research. If anyone has heard about CCD please let me know. Thanks! Kelly
