Hi all,
I thought that maybe it would be good to have a sticky for online science courses.
I am currently looking for an online/distance learning-- 4-- credit microbiology course. Of course it has to have a lab.
I know that both ccconline and Rio Salado offer these courses. Anyone have experience with either one of these in regards to microbiology, i.e. testing, level of difficulty, user friendly technology. I know from experience with Rio that the exams are proctored but how does ccconline deliver their exams?
If you have a link or resources to other colleges offering sciences--please post them here.

So are you telling me that I can take A&P at home from Philadelphia, with an at home lab, no cat dissecting, and do it before nursing school actually starts? And not have to set foot on a campus?Where is this school and am I dreaming?! :chuckle
There are several colleges offering A&P online. I will tell you straight out they are very time consuming and involved. That being said, A&P by it's very nature requires a great deal of time so online is no different in that aspect than oncampus.
I know Rio Salado offers both I and II and CCConline also offers I & II. There may be other schools as well. I have taken A&P courses online and on campus and I found both to be identical in content just different in approach. I will say they are both equal in preparing nursing students.
I would suggest you check with the school you would like to transfer these credits to and be sure they will accept credits from the school you are considering. Some schools require both I & II to be taken at the same school.
Good luck and feel free to pm me.

I am scheduled to take A and P I at edukan this fall. The course starts October 17 and there are still available seats.
It's an 8 week course, and I know it's going to be intense but hopefully it will be worth. I have 2 little ones and my husband is in Iraq now too.
I cannot offer you any advice about edukan, but I have read good things on this board about them.

Thank you Mindie .. Do you know if the tests are online as well?

I just enrolled with Edukan for A&P I. I don't start until Spring semester 2 (February 13, 2005) because I just started classes at Axia College and I want to get a feel for the Axia/UoP learning model before I jump into a time and labor extensive course such A&P. Also, since I am getting financial aid for Axia I have to pay for the science course out of my pocket so it would be best to wait for the income tax return! LOL! I chose this particular course because it is using the books I already have from my A&P II course I took last year. Don't ask.
Anyhow, if anyone taking this course would be kind enough to tell me what it is like, I'd be grateful. Thanks in advance.
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to give a plug to San Joaquin Valley College Online at http://www.sjvconline.edu
Their courses are 5 weeks long and some are more intense than others depending on the teacher. They are quite pricey!! But for the short amount of time you can complete one class in and the convenience, it may seem worth it to some. Their courses are very well organized and the teachers usually respond fairly quickly to you.
Let me know if you have any questions about the school. I have nothing to say but good things about it, except for the price!! If you enroll in one of their certificate/degree programs on line you can get financial aid and grants to help with the price.
Good luck,
Jen

Just call 'em up and ask them. Chances are they will take them but you never know.
