Online Science Courses

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi all,

I thought that maybe it would be good to have a sticky for online science courses.

I am currently looking for an online/distance learning-- 4-- credit microbiology course. Of course it has to have a lab.

I know that both ccconline and Rio Salado offer these courses. Anyone have experience with either one of these in regards to microbiology, i.e. testing, level of difficulty, user friendly technology. I know from experience with Rio that the exams are proctored but how does ccconline deliver their exams?

If you have a link or resources to other colleges offering sciences--please post them here.

Hi Cutiepie612,

For the AP and Micro classes did you take those online? If so, do they have labs with them? And how are the tests/exams given for the online courses? Do you have to have them proctored or do you just take them online at home?

Thanks!

of course any time

Yes I took them all online with Edukan which I picked Colby Community College as my school through there its in KS... I think the website is Edukan.org... They have somewhat of lab.. the AP course has a very good interactive lab on a CD that you look at the bones and parts of the body and it has a worksheet booklet that you will have to answer the questions to .. and Micro has a GREAT lab online with a cd as well and you experiment with all the chemicals I LOVE THIS CLASS then you had to go into a lab on campus ( it can be a campus by you just have to talk to an teacher or student teacher) its took me a like 3 hours in one day to look over materials with a lab teacher and do one lab that the teacher ask of you... then you mail it to the teacher.. its an outline of your performance and what you know.. its very easy...

As for the test THEY ARE VERY EASY IF YOU STUDY for AP look over the book, notes from teacher and cd from back of book (the test on there are some of the same) .. Mirco is easy.. they are all online you make sure u have your notes, book and outline of chapter in front of you... pay attention to the questions you can find all of them in your book and def your notes .. and you might what to get a study buddy in the classes .. let me know if you have any more questions

Your welcome

Chrissy

Thank you so much for your insight! I am starting A&P tomorrow with Dr. Simmons. I'm pretty nervous. First online class.

I have to take all the other prereqs online also so am hoping to have a good support group here. LOTS of help will be needed. LOL

Hi-

I'm going to take bio 156 at rio salado this spring semester- I'm wondering, how many hours a week of work is it? Also, was it hard to understand at all? How do the tests work? At home, or do you have to go somewhere to take them?

Thanks so much for any info you can give!!!

Just wanted to share some of my experience with Rio Salado with you guys.

I've just finished taking BIO156 (Introductory biology for allied health) as a refresher/pre-req for A&P. It was amazing. By far the best instructor I have ever had, online or offline for any subject. He was very demanding, assigning essays, labs and quizes every week, but it was absolutely worth it.

I also finished HCC145AA, which is Medical Terminology. I wasn't too excited about this instructor. All she did was put online some notes on the test and a list with words we needed to know for the exam. She gave us a quiz and a case study every two weeks. It was an easy class, so I can't really blame her for not putting in a lot of effort.

Then I'm also taking MAT142, Applied College Math, right now. The instructor is not as actively involved as the one for biology. However, this math class is about the most interesting I've ever had. It actually is all about applying what you already know about math. Again, there is a quiz due every other week. And there are TONS of exercises available on MathLab.

Starting A&P in two weeks!

This is another great feature about Rio Salado, there classes start every two weeks!! I started my pre-reqs last May and I will have all of them finished by May. Which is a LOT faster than would be possible through the old-fashioned way.

When you're an Arizona resident, Rio Salado offers the same tuition rates as the other community college within the Maricopa Community Colleges, this is $65/credit hour.

They also have testing centers all over the Valley, so no matter where you live in the Phoenix metro area, they WILL have a center near you!

As you might be able to tell, I absolutely love it! :D

Hi, where can I get a good quality online physics course? Accelerated is preferred.:wink2:

FYI

I am currently researching if the following schools will accept the online science courses with labs at Rio Salado:

Moorpark College in Ventura County, California

Los Angeles Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California

Los Angeles County Nursing Program

I will post their answers once I receive the information.

I just heard back from Los Angeles Pierce College and the answer I was given was "these courses are not equivalent to Pierce College courses".

FYI

in Northern California, Sacramento/Roseville area Sierra College WILL allow online science courses from Rio Salado
