Online Nursing Schools?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I have a BA in English and after a few years of difficulty finding a job I decided to go back to school and get a BSN. I'm currently in a CNA course and I'm taking all the pre reqs, but the only issue is that my husband is currently in dental school and he'll graduate in a couple years then we'll be in the army moving around a lot and because of the timing I don't know if we'll be in one place long enough for me to apply/wait and then finish a program. And I don't want to wait until he's out of the army since we have a daughter and I want to be done with schooling before she's old enough to remember me being away all the time. Which leads me to my question, how reputable are online nursing school? If I did my program through one would I have a hard time getting a job afterward? Is there any online school that's better than the others etc?

Thanks in advance!

You can take your pre requisities online at whichever school you choose so long as the credits transfer over to your school or nursing.

you will not be able to take your nursing courses online in your initial schooling due to clinical courses and such. Usually, completely online schools are for nurses going back for another degree as they are already licensed and have successfully completed initial schooling.

You are aware that there are NO 100% online pre-licensure nursing schools, right? Because every nursing program requires a clinical component of some type. And clinical rotations are not something you just do on your own. Your school determines appropriate placement and your board of nursing determines how many hours you spend. A typical pre-licensure nursing student spends hundreds of hours in the clinical environment as a required part of their degree program.

You would need to be staying in one place once you get to the nursing classes. You may finish the prerequisites online but the actual nursing part will involve labs and clinicals which you have to do in person. No nursing program will be completely online.

There is one. I've seen a few students come through my facility; there have to learn all their skills there, but it can be done with a willing preceptor. Our education department, when asked, will also allow access to the mannikins as well. Caveat though is the student's attitude. Saw one that was asked to not come back, another that was everything you could want in a student.

Other thing is that this school is accredited but is currently only accepting students from a few states, if m6 memory is correct.
