online nurse practitioner

Published

hey guys,

has anyone heard of university of cincinnati online anp practitioner program or frontier nursing online. Is it possible to get in with a 2.67 undergraduate bsn gpa and a 3.7 gpa in my mba program. I have 3 more classes in my mba to graduate. what are my chances of getting in. If you know any more adavanced nursing programs online that I might have a chance to get in? Give me feedback please.

I have recently started looking at online FNP programs and was looking into Frontier. Do you know if their courses are "self-paced" ? i will also start looking at Univ of Cinn. For people who graduated from either program, do you feel that you were sufficiently prepared? Thanks!

How long did it take you to finish the entire program?

It took me 2 years of full time study to complete the ANP program- I think it was 36 credit hours total.

DO they follow quarters (4) or trimesters (3)? How long are each courses?

Ive been calling them for inquiry but no ones answering.

By trimester, I assume you mean Spring, Summer and Fall, which is what I did there. Spring and Fall were 15-16 wks each and summer was a few weeks shorter than that, I believe. Just like the majority of universities. You may not get to talk to anyone if they are out for winter break. I see they are up to $905 per credit hour now, plus the usual additional fees. I tried to go back there for a Post Master's FNP, but after weeks of delayed correspondence, I could never get anyone there to give me straight answer on what would have been required, so I gave up and went to a local school, and paid less than half the price. If money is no object, they are fine and I feel that I was adequately prepared, but I very much regret borrowing that much money and would have chose another school if I had it to do over.

Thanks for the fast reply. What is the maximum credit hours allowed in a term?

I am looking for the quickest NP program online. You got any suggestions?

I don't know the max number of credits. I did full time study, 36 hours in 5 semesters- Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring, which amount to about 22 calendar months.

You can find a list at allnursingschools.com. I did an online ANP at St. Louis University and it was ok- I learned what I needed to know. If I could do it over, I would have picked somewhere cheaper. I went back and got a Post Masters FNP at a local school that was an on campus program, and I think I got a better quality education at SLU. If you do decide, I cannot emphasize enough to get a FNP, not an ANP, as there are many more job opportunities and you are more marketable, even if you don't plan on seeing kids. It is not as easy to come by a new NP job as it is a seasoned RN job.

I've posted this before but will repeat it. I did my FNP through SLU online also. I found it to be a very good program. The instructors are great. And almost anyone can get in. I waited till the last minute, like two days before classes started and they signed me right up over the phone!

It's an individual choice. I did about a yr of research before I settled on a school. For me it was really important to be able to work full time, have little to no traveling to campus, and be cost effective. I live in Michigan and planned on MSU but it was a mix of online and on-campus sessions. University of Cincinnati (UC) is 100% on-line, it allows me to continue to work, and I enjoy the reputation the University maintains. Plus the program is the same cost as Mich States' program (and I don't have to leave my fam to stay in a hotel every month)

I would suggest you outline exactly what it is you need from a program. Once you are aware of your personal needs and goals you should begin to research and taylor schools to your needs. UC recently waived the GRE so that's great for prospective students, but if your undergrad GPA is less than 3.0 they may require something to show you are a good grad candidate.

Finally, when you look at schools take notice of their mission statements, philosophy, and visions. I would not apply to a school if I did not find some personal congruency within those statements...but I'm not sure how many people actually do this. For me it was important to feel confidence in the schools ability to train me in a way I feel satisfies my personal goals without conflicting with my personal philosophy of nursing. (sappy but true)

I sincerely hope this helped you. Good luck in your endeavors!:D

Those were pretty much my goals also. And I was able to work full time through the whole program at SLU (not saying it wasn't tough, but I did it!)

anyone had trouble contacting the people in SLU and UAB?

I have been calling for two days to inquire about their MSN Np program. So far, no one has called me back!!!

hello!

ok, i am also looking to pinpoint an online msn/fnp program and i really appreciate the great first-hand feedback on this thread.

now, i am interested in uc due to their reputation. however, slu requires almost half of the credit hours.

cost seems irrelevant as uc is half as expensive (435/hr vs 905/hr) but requires twice the amount of hours.

so, the main question is can one be completed faster than the other? does one allow for more time to work than the other?

is u. of southern alabama a contender?

please chime in and comment on your experience or research. if you know about ease of communicating with the school, campus visit requirements or other relevant information please share it.

thank you!

I am also looking in to online nurse practitioner schools. I have applied to university of southern Indiana a two year program cost about 10,000 dollars. Jefferson school of nursing takes 15 months to complete 31,000 dollars for the program. I am also wanting to apply to Frontier of University of Cinncinati I am going to go to which ever school say's yes. Does any one know much about jefferson school. I have not seen to many graduate of their FNP program on this web site.:uhoh3:

It seems that many of us are looking into online FNP programs. I left a fast track MSN program due to my extreme dissatisfaction for the quality of in person classroom education for the cost of the program. So I have been researching online FNP options...This is what I have found thus far. For me cost is a huge issue as getting my BSN in the fast track was very expensive. I am looking for the best rep with the most affordable tuition and fewest campus visits. The ??? marks by price indicate that no one has called me back yet to clarify. Maybe you all can help?
