Online Microbiology class

Published

I am looking for an online Microbiology Lecture & lab

1. Does anybody know of a great online microbiology class?

2. Inexpensive like NMJC ~$400 but unable to wait until Second part of Fall semester for it

Any help will be greatly appreciated...thank you guy!!

I am not aware of any Microbiology class that is offered online. Most micro classes have a lab component to it so I don't know if they could be completed online. I have heard of "combined" classes where you take the lecture online but come to campus for lab. Maybe look up colleges around you, call them or visit their website to see if they offer micro all online

Specializes in Med/Surg, Oncology.

I have never heard of a Micro class that you could take completely online because lab is always required as a co-requisite. I do know that at my college there was a lecture course you could take online, but you had to come to campus to take the lab.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

I was gonna suggest NMJC but you can't take it through them. :p

I think Colorado State University has a lab component but it's very expensive.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

Try EduKan, Trident or Clovis.

I don't know that I can say "majority" but certainly "many" applies to this: nursing programs do not always accept credits from online science courses (with labs). Pretty common to NOT have them accepted, actually, so you really should check with the nursing program you are interested in enrolling in and see what they will and won't allow.

Better to make that phone call and confirm requirements than spending time and money and effort on a wasted course.

Edukan

I'm in micro online (done in two weeks) and it's wonderful and I've learned a lot!

The OP is looking for specifics. Can you provide them, please?

I forgot to add that there are times when a university has its OWN online courses (including labs) that are (obviously) acceptable to that school. But one needs to be very sure that these credits are accepted somewhere else before committing time and money.....caveat emptor.

My bad! I was on my phone when I replied and didn't see that they wanted specifics.

The Micro class is 5 credits and is $135 per credit hour plus the $115 resource fee (includes the lab simulator and textbook). They have an 8 week course, a 12 week course and a 16 week course. It is 100% online---the lab, the final--EVERYTHING. All additional info would be on edukan.org.

I am currently in the 12 week course and will be done August 7th (SO CLOSE). I have an A. I really enjoy the lab component because it is a simulation to what you'd actually be doing in a real lab. I also work in a microbiology lab and it's spot on to what the lab looks like.

If you have any other questions let me know! I've taken two courses through edukan.

Both of these courses were accepted for full credit by your nursing school?

I, personally, think an online science class is an awful way to go. You do not get the hands on experience needed nor do you get immediate answers to questions. There is a community college in my area that does it and apparently most of the students have A's...go figure.
