Hi
I would like recommendations on online family nurse practitioner programs. I am debating on campus vs. online. I did my BSN online and had a great experience and enjoy the flexibility the online programs offer. My concern is that many of the online FNP programs require finding your own clinicals. Can anyone recommend a particular program they had success with and sets up clinicals for you?
Thank you

Frontier Nursing University has an FNP program. It requires two campus visits to Kentucky - one for 4ish days when you start the program, and again when you start your clinicals/immersion, for 8ish days. They assist with finding clinical rotations.
Have you or do you know of anyone that has attended Frontier? I have heard good things about them. Very important to me that the program i choose will assist in setting up clinicals, trying to avoid any unexpected surprises in a program.
I attended it for nearly a year, and many of the midwives I work with have attended it. It's a great program.

Frontier expects you to find your preceptors. They work with you in coordinating the clinicals, and are very hands on in monitoring your clinical progress. They have many tools including a database of previous preceptors and facilities for you to use when finding preceptors, but you should expect to do much of the leg work in finding preceptors. I believe most online programs also expect you to find preceptors in your area as they seldom have a local presence with the providers in your community. It is mostly a logistics issue, if your school is in Hyden, KY and you are in Biloxi, MS they are unlikely to know providers who have a good demeanor towards students and are willing to take them.
FNU does provide honorarium for your preceptors, so that sometimes gives you a slight lead against students in other online programs, and my experience there has been exceptional. But if finding your preceptors is a deal breaker, it would not be the school for you.
Good luck!

Attended, noticing past tense, what changed if I may ask?
Did you withdraw?

OP, I am not sure about your state, but be aware that some states do not accept most/any online programs for licensing. I know that in New York state, Frontier is the only (I think) FNP school that you can do online.

I graduated from frontier this past July. They prepare you well for boards and well as can be for practice. Had trouble with clinical as I live in a remote area, and even though there were some kinks we were able to work it out.
As of the time of my graduation, Maryland was the only state the students could not be licensed (not sure if that was the real issue) but people from there did clinical in DC I don't know where they would get their license from after. They did have an issue with NC but were able to work that out. So I know they would work out the MD issue sooner than later.
Hope this helps

I completed the FNP program through Indiana State University, and found the staff/faculty to be very supportive. I live in Maryland and had no troubles with licensing here. Be sure to check your state BON... Maryland's BON lists every accredited program they accept (online or not). From what I have learned from talking with friends at several different programs, even when schools "say" they will help find clinical sites, it is often left up to the students. Areas are saturated and there just aren't enough preceptors to fill all needs. Be sure to start the process of locating preceptors early on. Good luck!
