Online A&P course recommendations?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm looking to get "back on track" with my nursing courses (took some courses in the past, wasn't sure if it was what I wanted to do, took some other kinds of courses, and am wanting to look into nursing again). The spring semester at my local community college has already started, and the evening A&P sections are VERY small (two sections of 18 people each) and fill up VERY quickly, so I'm thinking about taking A&P I online.

Who has taken it online? Can anyone recommend a good source for online courses and the books?

And, did you check with the nursing school you planned to attend first and make sure that it would transfer? Who do I talk to?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Chris

Check www.ccconline.org

Their classes start the end of January.

I took A& P from www.iowacconline.com

Their classes started today but you may still be able to get in.

The required text was Hole's Anatomy and Physiology, but I also had the Marieb Anatomy and Physiology. Marieb is written more in depth, and HOle's is easier to understand.

Do ask your school if they will accept the credit first.

Great, thanks for the info. I've got to have my manager's approval (and some form filled out) before I sign up for the course (to get my tuition reimbursed by my company), and he's out all this week, so I'll have to look into the ccconline. Thanks!

Anyone else?

I'm taking A&P online through Rio Salado College which is a local cc here in Phoenix that specializes in online classes. All the CC's here are connected, so my classes will transfer between and then onto ASU if I choose to go.

Not sure if people outside of Phoenix can take Rio's online courses, because the final and midterm are supposed to be in person. I think you can set up a "proctor" though if you are out of the county. Not sure how this works though.

Yes, anyone can take courses from Rio Salado, it's just that you will pay out of state tuition, which is more expensive.

Even though I live in AZ, it's inconvenient to drive to Phoenix for the exams so I have mine proctored at my local community college.

I highly recommend Rio Salado to anyone looking for good online courses.

I took Chemistry and A&P I online at CCC Online. I am registered for A&P II and Psych this semester, then planning on taking Micro this summer. It is a great way to get your credits but it is not easy. It is also very expensive, but I was in the same boat -- I work and can't always get the days off I need to take classes in person. This will have to change if I get accepted into nursing school, but it works for now!

People think online classes are easy but they kicked my butt! You have to be motivated and organized. I'm getting there!

As far as whether it will transfer, it should. It is a college course and they are transferable. Check with the Nursing admissions office, they should be able to tell you.

Good luck!

P.S. Let me know if you need any help with ccc online. It can get a little confusing to navigate and I wish someone had helped me!

I took A&P I last semester Online through Arapahoe Community College (Colorado). Actually it was a "hybrid" class. You had to attend labs on Saturday morning once a month for 4 hours. The Online part was fine; you MUST be organized and an independent learner. The labs were a joke; this was due to a totally incompetent instructor and nothing else. Make sure you find out how the lab portion of your Online class is; you may have to purchase a lab kit, etc. which to my knowledge is rather expensive.

We also used the Marieb text and a lot of online resources that coincided with the text. Also PhysioX 8.0 and several other backup books. The class was a Guaranteed Transfer class to the University I will be applying to (make sure you check this out if you do take an Online class).

I'm taking A & P II this semester online (hybrid) also...different lab instructor!!!

It's great having the opportunity to take classes this way.

Good luck. If any other questions, feel free to ask.

I did mine through ccconline. And in case you are wondering it doesn't have a 'virtual lab'. You buy a lab kit and do all the labs at home...just like in class but without a lab partner! I have taken all my pre-reqs through ccconline. If you have any questions about it, feel free to PM me or leave me a note on my profile. AP is an intense online class with lots of writing. But, instead of memorizing you need to the how and why something works. It was a tough, but excellent class.

Good luck!
